like the church of Rome, the adherents of Islam may deny or lie about their faith, in order to acccomplish a purpose.
Wrong about the Church of Rome bit.

Although Islam permits lying in order to promote Islam, the RCC teaches that lying, for any reason, is a sin. And clearly, lying to promote any cause is going to be, in the long run, counter-productive.

... which doesn't mean that no RC ever lies or denies his faith.

Another point to consider is that, before the Last Judgment, it is only the souls of the damned that are in hell, not their bodies. Disembodied souls cannot make any sound.

John Yurich,
Surely, the bishop of this states capitols diocese would have rebuked the editor!
One might hope so, but there are plenty of bad bishops in the RCC, whose objective, it would appear, is to undermine the Catholic Church from within. (More effective than doing it from without.)

We have several like that in Australia.

Administratively, it's hard for the Church to do anything about them; but occasionally something is done, as in the case of a dissident French bishop who was transferred to a diocese, existing in name only, somewhere in the Algerian desert.

Mostly everyone just hangs on till they retire, in the hope of getting a better one next time.

Well, Fred Phelps certainly won't give an inch, but I don't think it's anything to do with the truth. Rather, it's more to do with an excessive attachment to one of the Seven Deadly Sins.

Nevertheless, God loves Fred Phelps and wishes him to be saved. I'm not sure, however, whether these feelings are reciprocated.

Really? I've no doubt the aim of the course is to indoctrinate the students in the world view of the creators of the course. It's the UK, after all.

“… intellectually exciting…, will challenge students…, the role of religion…, thought-provoking analysis…, it will engage…with the many issues…” yadda yadda yadda…

A ridiculous parody of academic-speak.

Glad it’s their country and not mine.

Lance,
where is the office of pope explained in scripture? Where is papacy identified and described in God's word?
I am not referring to a roundabout backdoor explanation.
What's the point, Lyn? You know it's Matt 16:18–19. But of course, you reject it, just as your co-religionists have for the last 500 years, with all sorts of attempts to explain it away.

Just as Jesus did at the last supper. But then, I guess Jesus was heavily into magic.

"This is my body"? What decent Calvinist could take Jesus seriously when he said things like that?

Actually, Lance it is easy to find a list of ]]The Bad Popes.
And it's fun to read about them. In fact, there's a book about them simply called "The Bad Popes".

Unfortunately, the wonderful quote attributed to one of them seems not to be authentic: "God has given us the papacy, and now we intend to enjoy it."

ok....so who was the "ONE TRUE POPE"?Can we have a name, please???
also.....why were new popes carried around for the rest of the team to have a sneaky peek under his garb to make sure he's "qualified" ie-actually not a woman?
Who was the one true pope? Depends what period in the 2000-year-history of the RCC you're talking about. It's easy enough to find a complete list of the "one true" popes.

And the chair exam is all part of the ridiculous Pope Joan myth. It never happened.

hey Lance....tell me this.Cast your mind way back to the time when there were 2 people calling themselves "pope" at the same time
which one was "infallible",and which was the actual head of your "church"?
and also, what about the time a woman was holding the position?
Somebody call my name?

Actually, at one stage there were even three rivals claiming to be pope. But in fact, there has only ever been one true pope at any one time.

Even today, you'll find a few "antipopes" claiming to be the real one.

As for Pope Joan, I thought it was a Protestant, writing several centuries ago, who proved that such a person never existed.

Regarding the current fuss about the Pope's mention of condoms, and the furious condemnations in the secular press, it may be a good thing. It may alert people to the fact that those countries that have the biggest promotion of condoms are the very ones with the biggest incidence of AIDS.

Compare Thailand (condoms) and the Philippines (faithfulness to one partner). It's the former that has the AIDS epidemic.

Rejecting the Council of Lucerne's about Papal infallibility would help the Romish
No it wouldn't. It would shatter the RCC into a thousand fragments.

The RCC only needs to glance round it to see examples of that.

Keynes was gay, and had the gay attitude: Spend like there's no tomorrow.

And there is indeed no tomorrow, since a gay man doesn't have descendants to worry about.

You've quoted that before, Jim. And as I pointed out last time, the candle went out long ago.

On this particular occasion, God declined to bestow his grace.
