Great Sermon! Wow! Just what I needed to hear. Thank you. I don't actually identify myself with Jesus. Yes, most Christians have a mistaken identity.
After an extensive church search, I currently attend an arminian church with some friends because I don't know where else to go. Since I hold to the doctrines of grace, it is very trying at times. Until recently, I thought the pastor at least held to the sufficiency of Scripture for salvation. The church is currently studying "Contagious Christianity" by Bill Hybles. During Sunday's sermon, the pastor actually said that it is not enough to tell people what the Bible says and that they are going to hell. Furthermore, he said that our times and culture have changed and so must we as Christians.
I was greatly saddened, but it is just the practical endpoint of an arminian theology.
Hummm, I didn't know the Bible and the way of salvation had an expiration date of 2008. (wink wink)
An Encouragement If You Are Weary If you are feeling weighed down by the continual rejection of your evangelistic efforts, listen to this sermon to be reminded of the mighty work that God is doing through you without your saying a word. And at the same time you will be re-enthused to both work and speak for Him, because He is doing more than you know. Very encouraging.
If Only WE Knew! I've re-listened to this sermon a few times recently, to remind myself of God's bigger perspective on my life. Too often I, like Jacob, am crying "Everything is against me!", when really, if I but knew it, everything is FOR me. God is working out plans that I may only see in heaven - but what amazing plans they are! Listen to this sermon if you want to stop thinking on a small scale.
So True I've been musing on this concept for the last few days since I heard this sermon. Every day there is something that happens which disturbs my 'happiness' - but what a joyful reminder that nothing, absolutely nothing, can disturb my 'blessedness', in Christ. Praise Him for that!
Reminder of grace What a great reminder this sermon is of the great grace of God, which I so often want to call into question - without realising what an atrocity I so easily commit. And what a patient, gracious God we have, who deals with us as with sons and daughters.
Great Sermon! was lovely sermon till close to the end when brother fortner makes comment regarding Jesus coming from Solomen. It seems quite clear that through the geneology in Luke (Mary's)the our Lord comes though Davids son Nathan. The geneology on Mathew is that of Joeseph, who is only Christ's stepfather.
Before watching "Amazing Grace"... I re-listened to this sermon before watching the film "Amazing Grace" which tells of the life of William Wilberforce. It was a great reminder to me that Wilberforce's motivating force was the glory of God - he was absolutely driven by it. The film was excellent; but there still is the tendency to feel that it was about the slaves. For Wilberforce, it was about God. And he was passionate about not only saving lives, but saving souls.
Not just for wives This sermon starts out, in a sense, about husbands and wives - but goes on to include the whole church of God; no matter who you are or what your role is, you will be encouraged to 'minister' wherever God has placed you. It all comes back to serving Him.
Great Encouragement This sermon is a reminder of the deep, deep love of God. It encourages you to take sides with God against your own self, and thereby be saved. Praise God for His salvation.
I'm from Texas and baptist in doctrine. The Southern Baptist Convention doesn't represent me!! It's is just another example of the visible church being like the world, forsaking its true purpose. The church has absolutely no business aiding and abetting lawbreakers (aka illegals).
Encouragement for the weak If you ever wanted encouragement for pressing on in the service of God in the face of your own weaknesses, this is it. This sermon reminded me that my weaknesses, and failures, and failings, are themselves used as a powerful backdrop to display God's mighty works. When you're feeling you aren't succeeding very well, listen to this sermon to remind yourself that God, on the other hand, IS.
Understanding the captivity This is one of the clearest explanations I have heard on God's people being taken out of their land, into captivity, and then back to their own land to rebuild the temple. If you've ever been slightly confused about the books of Ezra, Haggai, Daniel, etc. and how they all fit together, listen to this sermon. And if you want to be challenged deeply about your desire to see the Kingdom built, listen to the second one in this series.
Great Sermon! This is just what Christian families need for today. Be sure to listen to "Curing the Idolatrous Heart" to know how to take care fo the problem~!
Changing...everything This sermon was powerful enough the first time I heard it. I still keep hearing parts of it in my mind every day - reminding me that the relationship I once had with sin is no more. Sin is not my master. The best point in this sermon is that Christ did far, far more when He died on the cross than simply paying the penalty for my sin: He smashed the relationship I had with it. No one is free - you either do what sin wants or what God wants - and yet real freedom is not having to do what sin wants. What a powerful message to share with the world.
Wonderful Sermon! The spirit of Adam in us exchanges the truth about God for a lie, and we think of God as a harsh, cruel Father. Listen to this sermon and believe the truth about God toward us, His children in Christ.
