I would rather have Lee, a man of Christian faith, on my side rather than a president who participated in Mary Todd's seances.

No charges of treason against Lee.

"More than a hundred years later, in 1970, an archivist at the National Archives discovered Lee's Amnesty Oath among State Department records (reported in Prologue, Winter 1970). Apparently Secretary of State William H. Seward had given Lee's application to a friend as a souvenir, and the State Department had pigeonholed the oath.

In 1975, Lee's full rights of citizenship were posthumously restored by a joint congressional resolution effective June 13, 1865.

At the August 5, 1975, signing ceremony, President Gerald R. Ford acknowledged the discovery of Lee's Oath of Allegiance in the National Archives and remarked: "e;General Lee's character has been an example to succeeding generations, making the restoration of his citizenship an event in which every American can take pride."

Jim,

Robert E Lee was an honorable man who disliked slavery and freed his slaves at the start of the war. Whereas, Grant kept his slaves throughout the war. Lee was respected by Union and Confederate veterans.

I agree. Mechanization of agriculture and cotton would have made slavery uneconomical obsolete. 600,000 casualties from the bloodied hands of Lincoln. Also, after
Lincoln, Federal Government overstepped it's authority over state's rights.

Nixon's staff went to prison for spying on the DNC. Yet nowadays, people are numb and could care less if elected officials spy on their opponents.

Jim,

Read Genesis 47. Egyptian slaves not Hebrews.

Now there was no food in all the land, because the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished because of the famine. And Joseph gathered all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan for the grain which they bought, and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house. And when the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food, for why should we die in your presence? For our money is gone.” Then Joseph said, “Give up your livestock, and I will give you food for your livestock, since your money is gone.” So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses and the flocks and the herds and the donkeys; and he fed them with food in exchange for all their livestock that year. And when that year was ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is all spent, and the cattle are my lord’s. There is nothing left for my lord except our bodies and our lands.

If kids want to read a fairy tale about communism, they should read Animal Farm by George Orwell as mentioned by others in this thread.

Has anyone seen Jakob's Ladder? It is a historical film about a German Baptist minister in Stalin's gulag.

Mike,

You are correct. I live in rural area of Tennessee where almost every one cans. Here, if a person doesn't can or garden, that person is in the minority.

Now for the rest of the story:

Genesis 48

18 When that year had ended, they came to him the next year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is gone; my lord also has our herds of livestock. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our lands. 19 Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants of Pharaoh; give us seed, that we may live and not die, that the land may not be desolate.”

Egyptians sell their freedom for bread.

Jim, Both of my parents were older teenagers when they experienced the Dustbowl and the Great Depression. They survived by growing food and canning it. They passed wisdom to me to trust in God for help and not to rely on the government. There is no shame in preparing for disasters. Even the Bible has several accounts and proverbs about preparing for disasters. I will feel sorry for people who think that the government will respond in a timely manner to rescue them.

It does not matter whether the SA story is true or not. What matters is whether people can survive through disasters.

Short term, it is highly recommend to have at least three weeks of food (canned/packaged food with liquid base) and water. Avoid foodstuffs that require cooking in water.
