"A Colorado teen has been sentenced to 36 years in prison for his role in the death of a 7-year-old girl....."

Glad to see that America still has a reasonable punishment system.
Here in the UK this guy would probably have got around 8 years (maybe) for a crime like this.
The PC Liberal judiciary we have over here, no longer know how to spell the word punishment.
As for our illustrious Legislators, they are so PC if they had been involved they would have given him community service and looked abashed as they did so.

"The majority of American adults pick and choose their religious beliefs to create, in essence, a “customized” religion"

The new president of America does this - so why can't the people do it???
The inaugural circus he has laid on demonstrates his picking, choosing and distinct lack of real Christian principles.

The Remnant has always been a very small group in the church, never mind in the nation.

"Nominal" Christians abound in the western nations today. Many of them are called Liberals, which is a completely different religion to Christianity.

When you look at stats and surveys like these then all you need to remember is "Anglicanism" is still refered to as Christian. Or the WCC is considered to be Christian.

So it is no surprise that worldly religions like these are set up by Satan, to confuse and confound the gullible.

Jesus said
Mat 24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

And followed it with....
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.

So it is to be expected.

"general minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), a small, liberal-leaning Protestant denomination with 3,754 congregations"

"liberal-leaning"

This is a polite way of saying that they are not Christian. So nobody and their sinful alternate lifestyle is taught the Bible way as God's way.

Obama had to go the politically correct-liberal way because that is precisely where he stands politically and in his religious philosophy.

Thus the Bible and Christian doctrine will not get in the way of his term of office.

Proverbs 29:12 If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

Yes.

BTW Did you know that there is two sermons on SA of Duncan Cambell on the Lewis Revival.

"Multitudes of Christians have been attacked, and many killed, yet not one Muslim ever has been convicted in the attacks, he said..
"The why is very simple, because Shariah law says the blood of the Muslim should not be shed for the blood of an unbeliever,"

And Britain wants Sharia Law to have legal status over here. Stupid bureaucrats haven't a clue as per usual.
Not to mention the Archbishop of Liberalism Rowan Williams - who wants Sharia to take it's place with western law and Christian law presumably.

I pray the Lord shall help this woman Martha Samuel and her family, may escape this evil satanic persecution, and find a safer place to live.
In Christ.

Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Amen.

I AM NOT AN "EVANGELICAL", I AM A BIBLE BELIEVER,
The word "evangel" means the Gospels or "good news"

Like the term "Christian" - man in his usual perverse way, has highjacked the term evangel to mean something which can be unBiblical.
Confusion is obviously method which Satan will and does apply, when he is blinding both the church goers and the unbelievers.
To derogate the terms "Christian" and "Evangel" is an attack upon Christ and just one of Satan's weapons in the persecution of the True Disciple.

"PARKINSON'S disease sufferer Margo MacDonald (Member Scottish Parliament) will today launch a consultation on a new law to allow assisted suicide for people with degenerative conditions, terminal illnesses and dependent trauma victims."

It may be a harsh thing for some to hear at any time, but I do think it takes more courage to live, than to die in this way.

However knowing the bunch of reprobates we have in Edinburgh as MP's, I wouldn't be surprised to see this woman bring in legal murder upon those who suffer.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Sin became a part of the human condition when the then "human race" (albeit only two of them) disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. Since that time this has been the condition of every mortal and the wretched state of the world.

Eccl 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.

1John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Romans 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

Hey folks

Does anyone know of an online Bible with cross references to similar verses. Just like we have in a Bible (hard copy) where the verse cross refs are listed down through the center of the page.

SA takes care of exact same word search! - But what I'm looking for is a resource online which provides verses referring to similar themes and concepts.

Thanks.

"The book suggests that the Apostle Paul could have been a Roman spy who faked his conversion in order to infiltrate the early Christian church."

This fairy story is of course predicted.

3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto FABLES. 2Tim 4.

ONLY by Faith - the gift of GOD - can any mortal discern the Truth of Scripture.

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. 2Peter 1.

What would be the point of infant baptism? Is salvation by works? Truly, the only baptism that makes a difference is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I appreciate your comments, but I wholeheartedly disagree. God bless
Yes Lyn;
I suspect that Baptists and Presbyterians will continue to disagree on this for centuries to come; (if we all last that long).
But I know that you Baptists will learn the truth when you get to heaven.

"Salvation by works"??? What the babies works???

God be with you.

DJC49 points out that infant baptism doesn't save. The grounds for baptism are found in Acts 2:41, "So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls."
The preaching of the Gospel preceded the act of baptism, as the Holy Spirit convicts lost souls upon hearing the word of God, hearts are changed by the power of His word. Those who received {to accept what is offered} the Gospel underwent a baptism, but NOT until they had heard the Gospel message. It would be hard for an infant to hear and comprehend such a message.
Oh Dear Lyn;
The standard Baptist denomination hypothesis.

First you have excluded God from the baptism. Does He require proof by human confession to know who are His flock?

Second the verse to which you refer is at "mission," ie the first time the adults heard the Gospel. So yes they will require baptism at the age they hear. Presbyterians baptise adults on mission too.

Third *COVENANT* - The promise is to you and your children. Acts 2:39.

Fourth Nowhere in the Bible is discrimmination by age, taught or practised.

Fifth If God can accept the circumcision at 8 days old, then HE can equally receive and enable baptism at the baby stage.

etc etc.

BTW, why does imported English cheese cost over twice as much (~ $10/lb) as domestic? Does Britain keep the cheaper stuff for domestic consumption, or is it simply limited volume? I have trouble believing the English varieties are as costly to make (inefficient?) as the French.
Neil. (A suggestion from a Brit).
It could be because of our crazy and very expensive TAX system. In the production of our commodities the taxman rips us off - as well as in the consumption. Thus we "export" our tax burden as well. (Sorry)

it strikes me as if some of you claim to know the mind of God and to know His thought processes when it comes to election......

No one and I mean no one can know

The problem with this statement is that it suggests that God's people cannot know of something which is clearly taught in Scripture.

Rom 11:5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.
= Do you imply that the Remnant will not know who they are?
6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
= Do you say that they will not know the difference and be aware of grace; thus carry on a works based religious effort? Eg. RCC?
7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
= "blinded" implies that the rest could not see. Can you see?
OR
Do you have the spirit of slumber?
8 (According as it is written, GOD HATH GIVEN THEM the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear) unto this day.
= NB It is GOD who provides the perception - and the lack of it to some. This is God's WORD.

"In a guide to helping people find happiness, the abbot, who starred in the hit-BBC series The Monastery, warns that society is in danger of losing its soul because of growing consumerism and the decline of religion."

He appears to suggest this as a future event. I would say that it is already a feature of modern church and society. Doctrine should never be a reaction to any possible future event.

But "worldliness" has always been the enemy of Christianity.

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Phil 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a CROOKED AND PERVERSE NATION, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
