To: Desie, Dan, Abigail, Jim -
Shame on you. You teach against the Catholic church as if 1) you knew the truth authoritatively, 2) in a way that shows the darkness of your own hearts as you live in hatred, 3) with no knowledge of what the church actually teaches. If you knew what she taught, you would be much more careful about insulting the bride of Christ and calling her a harlot.

How could any Christian be so hateful? Or did Jesus teach that Hate is okay? Oh, wait. No. He said to love even your enemies.

Just out of curiosity, are most of you on here age 15 or something? Because the way you flash your pride and throw around the word "heresy" as if you even knew what "orthodoxy" was, it really makes me wonder how old you are.

In other words, grow up and learn how to dialogue, not sling insults at sincere Christians.

Answer to "Fellow Saint" - You ask what good works we must do to obtain and maintain salvation. I'll make this really clear first - Jesus Christ sacrifice on the Cross for our sins is the only way for us to obtain salvation. However, as is evident from James, you cannot separate the faith and the works. And I dont' really see a reason to, as both are gifts of God. If you're not bringing either one to the table, why not quit the fussing, and admit that it is God who saves, not your belief and not my works. But, Now, I ask you: What good works don't you have to do? We are taught very clearly throughout the gospels, by Jesus' own words that unless there is faith AND works, he will not recognize us as his own on the last day. If you don't have good works, you have dead faith. So I ask, again, what good works don't you have to do. "If you love me, keep my commandments." As Paul says, "For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified." Romans 2:13. Also, God will "render to every man according to his deeds: To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glary and honour and immortality, eternal life. But unto them that are contentions and do not obey the truth but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath." R.2:6-8

Wayne - What I said is not from the pit of hell. Rather it is from the book of James - "Faith without works is dead." I said, if you want living faith, there must also be works. It's logical. So the question, then, is what gospel is this that you are preaching? Is it of God? No. Because 1. No where in the Bible do the words "faith alone" occur. 2. Jesus speaks of the last day when people will say "master master!" and why does he turn them away? Not because of their theology, but because of their absence of good works. He says, "Depart from me I never knew you."

The Bible teaches the necessity of good works. Let me reiterate - That is not a gospel of works. It is a gospel of Grace. We must have faith and we must have works. Neither of these things can we possess of our own power, but only by the grace of God. That is the biblical Gospel.

You teach heresy to deny it.

Abigail is exactly right. Faith without works is dead. To insist on "faith alone" is unbiblical, as it is never taught in the Bible. If you want living faith, there must also be works!

The Catholic Church teaches that we have salvation by Gods grace through faith and works. Faith and works are inseperable as they both come from God. If you say you love God but hate your brother you are a liar and the truth is not in you.

That is not a Salvation of works. It is Salvation by Grace, and Grace alone.

Lurker wrote:
I know what you were asking but sadly, for the majority of professing Christians regardless of denomination the answer will not be made known until it is too late when multitudes will hear those dreadful words "Depart from me, I never knew you."
But for the remnant whom the Father foreloved; they need not wait to hear "Come ye blessed of my Father..." for they already know.
So, for clarification, are you telling me that there is no good reason why I should believe what you do, because even you do not know if it will bring salvation?

To misrepresent the teachings of the Catholic Church and to pretend to yourselves and others that those misrepresentations are indeed the teaching of the church is slanderous and uncharitable. If you care to bring people out of Catholicism, you should do so intelligently. Not by slander, but by dealing with the actual teachings of the Catholic church. All i have seen on this page are gross misrepresentations. My aim is saying anything here is to correct those in the hopes that the people here are not purposefully slandering the Church.

No one here has shown any sincere desire for dialogue. I will go seek it elsewhere.

We catholics could also say that if you protestants were so sure you were right, why not spend time teaching what you believe instead of going out of your way to misrepresent catholic teachings? What GG said is true about Catholic teaching. He corrects you not to get your approval but to correct your mistakes.

We are not after your acceptance of us. What matters to us is God's approval. However, shouldn't we try to save someone if they are in a burning house?

*point of clarification - I was not earlier asking for which church building is the Church of Christ. I was asking which body of believers represents the correct system of belief? If not Catholic, then who?

Albert: OH and btw, could you tell us when the LORD started up the sacraficial priest hood again, cause I cant find it in any christian church, even the roman church of the bible.

The Lord's Supper - Jesus give the example of a Scrificial Priesthood to his Church. Read John 6!!! v.55 - For my flesh is meat indeed and my blood is drink indeed.

Look at the writings of Justin Martyr -Christian apologist of the first century. He describes the Sunday Worship of the Christians, and see how he describes their worship...It is the same as the Catholics do to day, Real Presence in the Eucharist and all! These are churches that were under the oversight of the Apostles not many years before. And they believe as we do today.

Just as you see your church represented in the New Testament Scriptures, Catholics do as well. Why should I believe your interpretation on worship, etc. when I can look at the records of Christians from the year 100 AD and following and see how they maintain the original teachings of Christ.

God did not only give us a Bible. He gave us His Church, which is the pillar and foundation of truth.

Quick clarification - I never once said that I don't believe the Bible. I believe that the Scriptures are the inspired word of God. Same as any Christian. You may think that Catholics don't believe the Bible, but that only shows your ignorance on these matters.

You cannot have a double standard - You cannot say, "you shouldn't believe in the position of the cardinal because 'Cardinal' is nowhere in the Bible." then turn around and say that you can believe in God as trinity despite the fact that the word "trinity" is never written in the Scriptures.

Once again, no one has yet explained to me why I should trust their personal fallible interpretation of the Scriptures.

Jesus said he would guide his Church in "all truth". Not partial truth, mind you. So, which church is the church that has been guided by Christ in all truth? someone tell me, please.

Where in the Bible does it say that we should worship on Sunday?

Where in the Bible does it call God Trinity?

Where in the Bible does it say we should believe in "albert's" or "Ernie G's" interpretations of Scripture?

You cannot claim an infallible interpretation of Scripture. At best you can claim an interpretation that is partial truth. And how do we know which parts are true and which are false?

Jesus gave authority to the Church. But which church? yours? Can you point to a historical church that believed as you do to show that your assertions are correct?

The Church is the pillar and foundation of truth. What is your foundation?

Yes, it is good to tell someone to get out of a burning house. However, it begs the question to assume that it is the Catholic who is in the burning house.

I'll give you an appologetics tip: You will win more people to your position if you show a true understanding and true concern.

Your words about the Catholic Church have shown neither of these things. I recommend that if you are going to make a point of "witnessing" to Catholics, you should educate yourself first. Not just the non-Catholic critiques of Catholicism, but the Catholic teachings as well. Beating down straw man arguments will not get you very far with those who understand their faith.

To all of you who call yourself Christian, yet get satisfaction out of denying salvation to Catholics:

Remember Jesus' words, "By this shall all men know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another" Jn. 13:35.

Uncharitable words will not bring people out of the Catholic Church. But they do show your true colors, and keep us Catholics from being deceived.
