Lurker, I suppose I can see a couple similarities there ... but, of course Paul was a Jew and not an Ephraimite.

James Thomas wrote:
Next question is...why are the children of Adam and Eve performing sacrifices to God in Genesis 4?

Here's a controversial answer: GOD's Torah (instructions) were known way back then. Consider also Judah's sons who married Tamar. The second son, Onan, married to raise seed for his brother (Gen 38:8). This is all explained later to Moses, but Judah obviously observed this much earlier!

Lurker wrote:
Why do you say "WILL return"? Peter quoted parts of Hosea 1:10 and 2:23 in 1 Pet 2:10 and in context wrote to the house of Israel.....
1 Peter 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
Does this text make sense if applied to you or any Gentile Christian you know? Did you once know and love God, go astray and come back again? Of course not.... it only makes sense when applied to a people of God who had been cast away and gathered again..... the house of Israel who were given into Assyrian captivity.

Yes, Lurker, this is talking about the House of Israel. But, I've still got to admit that I believe I've been grafted into this. I can than GOD for the return to Him as if it was me. In the same way, Ruth and Rahab would have celebrated the Passover even though they didn't experience the actual Passover themselves. They had aligned themselves with the GOD and the people of Israel.

The link between the House of Israel/Ephraim and gentiles goes all the way back to Jacob's blessing on his grandson, Ephraim. He said that he would become a multitude of nations. It's too big of a study for here, but, in effect, I believe this can mean that he would become "the gentiles". I realize many won't agree, but wit

In the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the OT) you'll find that the same word (ekklesia) is used all the way through the old testament. The NT does not have a new term. GOD has always had just one people.

Concerning the House of Israel (northern kingdom):
"And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God."
- Ho 2:23
"For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim: Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days."
- Ho 3:4-5

The House of Israel WILL return and seek the one true GOD! I believe that the gentiles/nations/House of Israel are very closely linked. Israel *became* the nations or gentiles in effect, and it is by their casting out that we can come in. We are part of them that once were not His people, but now are called "His people"! Therefore, through the House of Israel we become grafted into the Commonwealth of Israel (Eph 2:12, 13)

Great passage, John for JESUS. It's not for the Jew's glory or for ours either. It is for our GOD's alone! What nation has ever returned to their homeland after almost 2000 years? Only one! GOD is truly great - and if the world takes notice they have evidence of this as they look on the nation of Israel.

John for Jesus:
Are you sure there was no law around with Abraham?

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.

It looks like people may be forgetting that most of us are grafted in to the natural tree. The tree is Israel! If we think that it's all about us, then we need to be careful - we can easily be cut out again so that more of the natural branches can be grafted back in! GOD does not forget His people and His land.

Hi Lurker. I agree that the gospel does not bring death - just as I believe the perfect law does not bring death (in and of itself). But, the gospel that is preached or displayed to others brings death (so to speak) if it is not accepted. The law, also, brings death to those who disobey. Through the Messiah we can have life and be freed from the *law of sin and death*. Good news indeed! But, do we then go and break His commandments? My belief is no.

Interesting thoughts on baptism.

GSTexas: It's easy to use 2Cor3 against the Torah/law. However, that can't really be the point here because there's too many other comment from Paul that show otherwise. In fact, in chapter 2, he even talks about the gospel bringing death! Hebrews is all about the priesthood and sacrifices. Read it through without a commentary, and it becomes quite clear (especially if you see the words that KJV adds).

in case you did not notice wrote:
so what are saying, fyi, we should stone rebellious children? We should pray towards where the temple that would be located in Jerusalem? We should live in tents for a week?
There's a lot of things we should consider doing, yes. The stoning children one's easy to bring up to make all other laws seem implausible. The fact is - stoning was to be administered/sanctioned by government, and not individual decisions!

I have been grafted into Israel. I believe OT laws need to be reexamined by today's Christians.

The aforementioned chart looked interesting. However, from my study, I think that the burial took place just before the Thursday began - so adding 72 hours brings us to late on the Sabbath. That means Jesus rose just before, or during the "changeover" to the first day began (biblical reckoning). This was the same time the priests were cutting the wavesheaf offering in the barley field for the first fruits offering for the "Sunday". This day was always on a Sunday - it wasn't some NT change!

Biblicist: Isaiah 40:22 says the earth is a circle. The word for circle can also mean sphere. Job says that the earth is suspended with "nothing".

Hi John UK. Nearly time for my bedtime now. Yes, we treat Friday as a preparation time, then depending when sunset is, might have a study before bed with some of our older children. Next day, we either have people come to our house or go to someone else's, usually having a meal together.

Has GOD given us peace in this? I think so. I don't think we could go away from the Sabbath now without a guilty conscience. We truly believe that we've been led to this point and to go back on it would be akin to rebellion (for us). It's still difficult, though, knowing we're different to many people that we respect.

The Roman calendar works with the Sabbath. There's only 7 days in a week! It's impossible to all observe at the same time. The earth is a sphere.
