Norman- may I say this, if God had NOT humbled me, I would still be a practicing sodomite. I am far from perfect, but I do know what God has done for me. I agree, this stupid and senseless war of words is truly a waste of time and ridiculous. It is also shameful. I pray for the man {fredrick}who sought true biblical advice concerning salvation, he more than likely thinks this site is filled with a bunch of hypocrites...he wouldn't be wrong.

Vogue/Wayne of Southern California- Your comment, "you and Lyn seem to have the same problem, a lack of humility"...please don't think you know my heart, you are out of line in saying I lack humility. You need to be very careful with your choice of words. You were rebuked before by Godly men, Micheal Hranek and Lurker, adhere the rebuking before Christ takes it to a more serious level. Also, leave me out of your arguments with Banned.

Vogue- I REMEMBER YOU!! you are 'wayne' from So. Cal. Your wife attended Master's College, and you claim to know John MacArthur personally! You posted many comments from the Aug. 12, 2008 story concerning Obama failing to win over Evangelicals. You defend a man who is for the killing of babies, and you verbally lashed out in an absolutely horrible way to all who disagreed. Your posts were mean spirited, you viciously insulted not only me, but also Sherry C. and girl from Australia. You were rebuked by Lurker and Micheal Hranek. You eventually apologized, but apparently it was not sincere. Your hateful sarcasm and belittlement of others has not changed, as evidenced by your attack on me. Saying 'I'm sorry' is meaningless unless the Holy Spirit brings one to Godly sorrow, repentance will not be genuine.
I pray Fredrick will take the sound biblical advice from JJ, Max,Banned, IDH and myself. I stand by my post, you did NOT clarify secular professional counseling from biblical in your post.
I will not 'go there' with you again Wayne, you would be wise to move on.

Vogue- In my own defense, You NEVER said 'biblical' counseling, you said 'professional' counseling. To insult me is 'Christian'? May I recommend weighing your words more carefully.

Fredrick- let me tell you this, not long ago, I was a sexually immoral, perverted sodomite. I knew the sin I chose to act upon was dead wrong, but I SUPPRESSED the truth. Whenever my conscience would speak out against my abomination, I would quickly avert my attention and focus on other 'things'. I drank excessively, and was a miserable lost soul. Then God, in His timing and by His grace, bolted through my heart in dramatic fashion. A family member was stricken with a terminal illness, this was my breaking point. I was humbled before God, I cried uncontrollably, and I shouted, "O GOD, HELP ME!" He did! That was nearly six years ago. Pray for God to bring you to where you need to be, and wrestle with Him until He does so!

Randomthinking, I agree, it is a big load of responsibility. We should not tell a lost sinner who is crying out for biblical guidance to 'seek counseling' through man's wisdom. My comment about the blood on the hands is in direct correlation to that statement. May God bring the commenter of that statement under conviction. The blood is also a reference to giving the Gospel to the lost, only the power of God's word is able to change a dead soul. We needn't excuse sin, categorize it, nor mix worldliness with scripture, let us never forget the words of Christ, 'IT IS WRITTEN'. Nothing else is needed to give to the wicked sinner except the whole counsel of God, not bits and pieces, but the WHOLE counsel of God.

Fredrick, PLEASE do not take vogue's misguided advice and seek man's solution, 'counseling'. This is a lie from the pit of hell. Your problem is the same as mine, and ALL of mankind, we have a sin nature that always steers us toward rebellion against God. We have wicked, vile hearts that are incurable {Jer. 17:9}. We have hate, sexual immorality, lust, covetousness, all within our hearts {Mark 7:20-23}. What can we do about it? We cry out to Almighty God for mercy. God, by the power of the Holy Spirit that resides in the hearts of genuine believers and through His word, will transform the new creation in Christ into the image of His Son. Please pray for discernment concerning the 'advice' given here, I would not want to have your blood on my hands, nor should anyone else here, because of 'wrong advice' given. May I suggest a wonderful book, besides the Bible, by Charles Leiter entitled, 'Justification and Regeneration'. Also, listen to solid preaching such as found here by Paul Washer and John MacArthur, to mention a few. I am not saying we do not sin, but we don't live a life characterized by sin. May the Lord God bless you and guide you.

Rob, I agree, I don't think being a good 'repenter' is relevant at all. NO ONE can even come to the point of repentance unless God grants it. One cannot see the greatness of God, the preciousness of the blood of Christ, the absolute awe of the miracle of the new birth, until one has been broken over their sins, until they acknowledge that sin before a Holy God and lay all sin at the feet of Christ.
Thank you for your prayers, I will pray for you as well. God bless

Max, I don't think anyone is taking sin lightly, or categorizing it. The problem seems to be with this man's blaming his sexually immoral act on some childhood issue. That is not what the bible teaches as far as the origin of sin is concerned. He is playing the blame game, which would make it apparent he hasn't quite yet considered himself a vile wicked sinner, like the rest of us.
Fredrick, by saying you aren't saved and continuing to struggle with sin, the next step for you is a dire need to cry out to God, and continue to do so, until He answers you. Do as Jacob did, wrestle with God and do not quit until He answers you.
Let all of us here who are in Christ please pray for Fredrick.

Fredrick- Romans 6:1-2 says, 'What shall we say then, shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid! How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?'
To truly be regenerated in the heart is what keeps born again believers from sinning habitually. May I ask, how did you come to salvation?

Max, I think we all would agree sin is a struggle for all born again believers. But, sexual sin is much more serious than calling the neighbor a 'jerk'{for example}. However, Mr. Haggard's blaming his perversion on a youthful incident is ridiculous. A thorough study on sin, and the absolute wickedness of the human heart brings clarity to his sin. Jeremiah 17:9 is a verse for all to heed, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked {incurably sick} who can know it?"
I have studied the word 'lust', which is a desire for what is forbidden. This lust lies within the human heart. James 1:13,14 says, "When tempted, no one should say, God is tempting me, for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when, BY HIS OWN EVIL DESIRE {lust}, he is dragged away and enticed". This man led himself down the path he chose, he acted upon the forbidden desires of his heart. As a former sodomite saved by God's grace, I understand ALL sin, even sexual sin, is birthed out of our very own hearts.

Doesn't this take us all the way back to the Garden of Eden? Didn't Adam blame Eve, who in turn blamed the serpent?
This man has never been broken over his sinful condition, he hasn't been brought to godly sorrow which leads to repentance; he is still playing the 'blame game'. Mr. Haggard obviously refuses to see his own desperately sinful heart, may God bring him to the point of humility and brokenness. He should not be in a pulpit anywhere, unless it is to publicly confess his sin and take full responsibility for his own actions, then he should take a seat amongst the congregation.

There is hope, "most fundamentalist Baptist preachers will not even bother to listen to him..." This is their loss. This man preaches by the power of God, filled with the Spirit of God. He is proof God uses men [and women] who surrender to His will, and study His word diligently. Whether Bro. Washer uses the Geneva, the KJV, the NASB, the ESV, is irrelevant, God is not hindered by a translation. I do not say this to start a translation war, let's keep it a matter of personal choice and please, leave it at that!
Thank you there is hope, God bless you and your family.

Angela, God bless you! excellent post!

There is hope- you said, "perhaps God will raise up in this generation another John Knox, Zwingli and Calvin who recovered the old truths and preached the sovereignty of God and repentance of sin in the world"...He has! I encourage all to listen to Paul Washer's 'the ten indictments' found here. Also, he has a study entitled 'the One True God' found at heartcrymissionary.com/resources/online_books

Thus saith the Lord,"Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls" Jer. 6:16

Regardless of what took place prior to the election concerning the economy, etc., God has given America the leader she deserves. The 'religious right' have tried to 'control' people through the Rep. party for many years, neglecting the greater duty of proclaiming the truth, 'repent and believe in the gospel'. Under 8 years of 'Christian' Pres. Bush, we are STILL killing babies, homosexuality is spreading like the cancer that it is, sexual immorality, drugs and alcohol are ruining our young people, lost sinners everywhere are wandering around looking for purpose. And what is the 'church' upset about? Obama won! The prior things should break our hearts and cause us to proclaim truth. GOD IS IN CONTROL! We must understand that, we know Christ will return in glory...this is what we should anticipate and be looking for. There is a famine in America, the famine of the TRUTH of God's word, the good news of the gospel is scarcely heard. May all pastors step into the pulpit this coming Lord's day and preach with conviction, may truth be heard.

Christiana, AMEN! We have complicated the gospel to the point of needing pocket study tools just to explain, we forget the Holy Spirit is the one who does the work through the word. "And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power" 1 Cor. 2:1,2,4. Many here make it routine to tear down others with their 'superior wisdom'. They would argue with a signpost! God bless you sister!

Mike, your comment, 'sodomy isn't flourishing' could not be more wrong. I have seen with my own eyes, in the area in which I live, more and more men and women boldly professing their homosexuality. To say it isn't on the increase is to have your head in the sand. Yes, sodomy has always been around, and as we draw closer to Christ's second coming, wickedness of every kind is growing and will continue to do so. I don't base my accusations on the media, I base it on what I have seen with my own eyes. The population of my hometown is roughly 2,000 people, as is the population of most surrounding towns. Yet, homosexuality is growing like a cancer, especially within the teenage sect. I am not even talking about the gay marriage that makes national news, I am amazed at the teenagers in my area who now profess this perversion. I do not put any stock in the mainstream media, I don't even watch television, I choose not to allow that garbage in my house.

Alan- excellent point! If indeed over half object to abortion and homosexuality, then why is sodomy flourishing, and why are we still killing the unborn? As far as the election goes, my hope and trust are in the One who rules and reigns for all eternity...until He comes, we all must be busy doing our Father's business.

This is why they don't know the God of the Bible. According to this article, only 27% say they read the Bible in the past year, how telling is that??!! "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching" John 14:23. "Man does not live on bread alone but on EVERY word that comes from the mouth of the Lord" Deut. 8:3b. These are just two of the many verses that emphasize the importance of reading God's word. How can someone claim to believe in Christ when they seldom read His word, have no regard for the life-changing power of the sacred scriptures, and are ignorant to the ways of the Lord? It is obvious their loyalty is NOT to Christ, but instead to some church taught propaganda. May the Lord draw these lost souls to Himself, and truly save them according to His plan of salvation, not some church tradition that keeps them in the dark.
