I have seen some reviews about Paul's Wash's sermon. From what I can tell, I agree with it, just having seen the reviews. Thankfully I have been rescued by God's grace from this new movement. It just is not Biblical. Simply making a decision...altar call, sinners prayers, etc, does not guarantee a smooth ride or a bumpy ride to heaven. If such methods were so effective or divinely approved, why are the Apostles not recorded doing such things and commanding them. Jesus says repentance and the remission of sins would be preached in his name. The Apostles took this quite literally as seen in the Acts(Acts 2:38, 3:19, 26:18, etc.). Yes, there is the foudation for true evangelism--Repentance and forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ. |

It is post-evangelical, that's for sure. But here's the problem: when the Gospel and the Scriptures are left behind, something else comes in to fill the void...new ideas, new religions(yes, even atheism is a religion), political turmoil, lower morals, unrest, discontentment. We see it happening. The US is leaving the Scriptures behind and look at what has been happening...an economy spinning out of control, huge national debt, among other things. Not only is the US post-evangelical. It is post-constitutional, leaving behind the foundations on which is was built. |

Amen, Michael. I think many today do not believe revival needs to begin in the visible professing Church, so I agree with your words and concern and passion. Just look at the state of the visible Church and who is soon to assume the office of the President of the United States! If the recent election does not demonstrate the health(or lack thereof) of the Church, I don't know what does. A vast segment of the visible Church is hardly different from the world in aspects of morals and doctrine. Now we see why the Pslamist invokes God to revive us. And thus the old hymn "Revive Us Again." A lot of Christians have much confessing of sin to do, but this is hampered by the world's ideas being accepted into the Church(sin really is not sin, you have a disease instead of a sin problem, the Bible was confined to a certain culture, is not divinely inspired, authoritative or infallible, etc.) I am happy to confide with you. And with that, I am going to bed. The sun will rise soon, but I need some zzzz's. |

Michael, shall I explain further my post below about revival beginning with believers or have we reached a consensus? Maybe I do need to clarify. Sorry if something was not clear. Anyhow, why I quoted that Pslam....1. I believe it shows that revival begins with believers(I don't believe it was an unbeliever who wrote that Pslam) 2. It shows that revival is God's work. I don't know if this helps, but that is why I quoted it. The Pslam shows that we should be totally reliant on God to do a work in our midst....not for us, but so that others will be blessed and brought to salvation. There are plenty of phony revivals going on and from time to time we hear of their leaders' downfalls on this website(Todd Bentley, the initiator of a supposed revival in Florida, to name one who fell). I believe true revival begins among us who pray and in repentance seek God's forgiveness and cleansing from all unrighteousness. Then we can go forth in power to speak the word boldly to sinners so that they too may become partakers of God's grace. Amen? |

Good point, Nathan. We have the Word of God. If more people would follow it in action, we'd be in better shape...blessed, protected, prospering. Following the teachings of the Pope will not suffice...not at all. Even Peter(the first pope according to Roman Catholics) says "It is better to obey God instead of man." Let this be a lesson for the Church and the USA. |
