Mourner,
Thank you for your thoughtful response. I didn't see MS's post until you mentioned it. If I have time, I will listen to it.
While I disagree with your view, I appreciate your sincerity and thoughtful deliberation. God bless.
Thank you Rodney for your kind interaction with me. Please note I also posted a sermon. If you fine time before the Lord's Day, I'd encourage listening to both for balance. They are different but both address thing worthy of consideration Scripture and history.

I pray the Lord will grant you time for consideration of this so weighty a topic and at such a time as this.
May the Lord bless you with clarity as you weigh out all that is necessary as a man, for it is a day that calls for men of God to stand up for God. Every blessing in Christ as you endeavor to do His will walking in the whole counsel of God.

I haven't read the article but the topic is not new. Again I suggest Church history. In so saying, I acknowledge that the Word of God is the standard for all doctrine and practice, however Jesus Christ has had a Church on earth since His word promised a Redeemer after the fall in Genesis 3:15 and that together with the testimony of Scripture is helpful to the little flock, many of whom are not themselves ministers/elders, or those most familiar with the original languages of Scripture.

Speculative knowledge of what one would do 'if' is still speculative. I once heard a statement that caused me to think. Opinions are something we can change, a true convictions are what one is willing to lay down their life for. We are not to look for trouble or place our lives in danger, but if it is the Lord's will life threatening danger finds his sheep, they will be, as always, cast on Him for action and outcome.

I will say there is a time for every purpose under heaven. Church history is replete with what Christ's little flock did in times of persecution. But greater still is what Christ did to uphold them in creation and providence whether in life or death.

Greetings @Rodney K.

After I posted to you last evening I listened to the sermon MS suggested.
I had so many mixed thoughts from all that I heard. But it appeared that this Minister of a Congregationalist Church in
N. Ireland in 2011 had been brought to the position of exclusive psalmody from studying Church History. He believed that historically since the second Reformation; Protestants or those that were opposed to papal Rome's inventions or will- worship were synonymous with Psalm singing; whereas Gregorian Chant, organs, Choirs, man-made hymns were practiced by Romanists.

When this man came to this position the war began. I have seen this happen in my life time in a number of Churches. What statues are to Romanists and icons to the Orthodox, man-made hymns are to 'professed' Protestants.

The the seriousness of the issue is related to idolatry and will worship; God's will verses man's, and the favor of men vs God's.

I believe that the Papacy is to the West what Islam is to the East.

To answer your question in part. I sing only Psalms that are translated from the Hebrew, accapella and reject all else in the worship of God. Though I might quote something that represents truth to encourage another, I refrain at a time so hostile to the hymnal in Scripture.

Is it OK to sing this psalm, but not the great Hymn it inspired?
“The text of the 1650 Psalter was originally the work of Francis Rous, who completed his text around 1644. But *before the text was finally approved for use in the Scottish church it was subjected to six years of scrutiny and revision by two different groups of highly learned and devout leaders of the church. Literally every word and phrase was carefully weighed for faithfulness to the original Hebrew texts.*

The work that resulted from these revisions contained only a small part of Rouse's original text. Instead, what emerged was a composite of the work of the review committees plus lines taken from several other Psalters that were in circulation at the time.”

What you refer to here as a hymn is what is referred to as the ol'100th and is Psalm 100 in the Scottish Metrical Psalter LM First Version - this version was retained from the 1562 English and 1564 Scottish Psalters. It is by William Kethe.
See - http://www.thepsalmssung.org/scottish/
In essence it is a metrical translation of the original Hebrew so it can be sung in the native tongue of the people singing it. Psalm 100 KJV or 1650 Scottish Metrical Psalter are both translations from the Hebrew

BMcC If you're basing your command for uninspired hymns from the Greek you should have more accurately given all that Strong's states.

You quote Hebrews 13:15 Heb 13:15 "By him (the Spirit of Christ)therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name" You give examples, yet in every case these were fallible men and women declared holy in Christ, moved by the Holy Spirit. Personal experience Yes, uninspired, No.

From the article: "The petition came as Italian papers are reporting that opponents of attempts to liberalise the Church are throwing "poisoned meatballs" in a bid "to weaken the charisma and strength of Francis". They claim that opponents are attempting to corner the Pope in a battle between liberals and conservatives. The reports also claim that much of the opposition to the Pope comes from conservatives in the United States."

1 Kings 19:15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael (foreign invader)to be king over Syria: 16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi (providential civil sword)shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah (man of God's appointment)shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. 17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay. 18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

.. Nowhere Scripture indicates that Psalms constitute the exclusive praise ordained of God
3 Where in Scripture does it say that the Christian is obliged/commanded to use the book of Psalms for worship exclusively?..
Psa 105:1-7 O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. Seek the LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore. Remember his marvellous works that he hath done; his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth; O ye seed of Abraham his servant, ye children of Jacob his chosen. He is the LORD our God: his judgments are in all the earth.

I agree with Psalms Only when he says man-made hymns are the road to Liberalism; I'd add from experience Liberal Romanism. Isaac Watts has a doctrinal history that would make one question a number of things.

If it is not commanded, it is forbidden; that is the Regulative Principal Nadab and Abihu's example should be considered. I believe the burden is on you to prove from the Scripture that uninspired hymns are commanded.

The Lord's 'hymn' the Hallel, was from the inspired Book.

I remember the JPost doing some articles on women in the military. A study relative to female injuries and areas of definite weakness, enough so that it was brought before Parliament for further consideration.

A number of good points have been made, that brings balance to the discussion. Sin in all its various presentations is the real culprit. Sin puts everything on its head. Up is down and down is up. The Lord heard my prayer request, mentioned here this morning, in part. I had opportunity to minister as a nurse to a woman treated as if she was in the military in her 60's. Yet the tough life in this area calls for women doing men's work because the men have been struck with a variety of afflictions and diseases. It is necessary for survival. This woman tore a ligament in her knee. Yet she is responsible like many of us for wood sufficient for NE winters. She did it bringing in wood in the dark. The Lord granted me a time to help her when the one she helps distanced himself in her need. Please pray for this woman her need for Christ is the greatest but her life is beyond hard. That the Lord would grant her physical & spiritual help, and use it for her large families good, they are all very needy. The (-)results of unlawful war is relative.

“Often referred to as "The Scottish Psalter of 1650" because the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland approved the text of this Psalter for use by the church in 1650. Sometimes, as is our practice on this site, http://www.cgmusic.org/workshop/smp_frame.htm the name is shortened to just "The Scottish Psalter." This Psalter has been in continuous use since its initial publication, and has remained unaltered, except for some modernized spelling, from its original wording during all that time.

Rev 16:13 And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Appreciated from the preface, John. Just this morning I was brought to sorrow for those who do not love the Word of God. How empty is the life that is unable to rise in the morning and not find all the love of a Father and gracious Head and Husband poured out for our comfort and hope by the Holy Spirit.

Col 4:2-6 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; Withal praying also for us, .. God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, ... Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

This I read after singing Psalm 103:8-13 in thanksgiving for provision of all kinds. O, that the Lord would pity this nation and State, truly it's misery is great! Pray for all, in their various capacities who will come to NY to preach or dwell here and share the gospel of peace with God and man!

Pray for my Village once referred to as H--l's Kitchen, that it would be called Heavens Kitchen one day. Pray for my town many of the elderly are in great straights and they're the strength of the Community, there is much sickness among them. Pray God to send us a Ministry!

There is a portion of Psalm 147 that has long been a prayer request as I used the temporal to reflect on the spiritual need.

Psa 147:18 He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
Psa 147:19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.
Psa 147:20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the LORD.

I trust if I misspeak here; I'll be corrected from Scripture by the Spirit's witness. My answer to your questions:
1. God by the Spirit that proceeds from the Father and the Son
2. The Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.
3. We are still in the flesh and there is a difference between justification and sanctification. Soul piercing affliction/mortification would seem to address the justified man's remaining corruption that is legally removed, his righteousness is imputed but not perfected till glory.

Phil. 3:9,10 came to mind here: Phil. 3:9-11 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the 'power of his resurrection', Rom.8:13 and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. to the end

Appreciated your thoughts for they were a compliment to mine. When I turned on my computer the Psalms were being sung to me from where I left off last evening, first Ps.107:23-31 then my spirit engaged with Psalm 108:1-6 What awe is due to God as one tries to fathom His Attributes and works.

I read your post and finished reading Rev. 16:18-21; compare Rev. 11:14-19
Rev 11:18 And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the 'dead', (see Rev. 20:4-5*) that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth. Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and 'thunderings', and an 'earthquake', and 'great hail'.
