In a very detailed chart in a Companion Bible (that has been addressed here as to its reliability) it traced *from the Scripture* the week that preceded the resurrection. The conclusion which was set up in the chart in two circles one with the Jewish reckoning of time and the other with the Roman, it seemed to indicate that Jesus rose from the dead at 6PM of the Jewish reckoning which made it the first day of the week, their reckoning.

Matt. 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, (6PM) as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre...v.5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
v.6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

It is apparent that Jesus was already resurrected when the women arrived at the tomb, the angel moved the stone to make that apparent.

In this chart is was an exact transitioning of the day from the end of the sabbath to the first day of the week, making it not arbitrary but a precise transition.

I remember at the time following the chart and the Scripture for accuracy of recorded events.

Reading 1 Tim.1 this morning I was reminded of this thread.

1Ti 1:8-11 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine; According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.

Romans 1 states that by natural revelation what man understands from the creation is enough to make him guilty before God, a guilt that brings severe judgment unrepented of.

If the law is written on the heart (intellect, will, affections) of the righteous, and the conscience of all men, then does lawless here means without a knowledge of the law? Does it mean without civil enforcement of it as when magistracy, as God's agents for order in society, refuse to do God's bidding? Again Romans 1:17-25

Can any man truly profess ignorance of what is written on the heart, though it would be true to say by nature they hate to be ruled and desire rather to rule.

Correct in saying these Judgments: immorality let loose, abortoficients and covenant breaking are the cause of Judgment? Not the cause, the fruits of being given over to a reprobate mind without *repentance* and faith in Christ. Again, Romans states " Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. *Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:* (the judgment) Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
(the cause)

One of the many striking things reading 'A Cloud of Witnesses'; the testimonies of the Scottish martyrs, for Christ's Crown and Covenant, was that they'd ask forgiveness and repentance for the poor sinners carrying out their execution. They'd express their desire that they'd be brought to faith and repentance. But then they would note that this was their personal response to this offense (sin), but that they were not God, who alone could forgive offenses against Himself. They emphasized God's sovereignty and the seriousness of offending a thrice Holy God, they'd arouse the sinners sense of such high handed rebellion. We all offend one another in many ways but God is so much higher and therefore the offense so much more heinous.

Psa 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

God's dealings with the Babylonian monarch in the Book of Daniel is note worthy, as well as Daniel's demeanor and candid speech as concerned God when speaking with the succession of monarchs in his life time. He as God's representative had less sympathy for the unteachable; see Daniel 5:17-31

Isa 26:9 With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.

Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. B.McC's points 1.& 4. mentioned were on my mind in the night watches. I listened to the sermon mentioned on the thread and it was emphasized that it was typical of dispensationalism to rent the Old Testament from the New as if both were not of the same authority. The Scripture is brought into greater clarity in mutual dependence upon all the revelation of its Divine Author.

M. Henry stated on Matthew 12:1-13 concerning the Pharisees "Note, it is common for men of corrupt minds, by their zeal in rituals, and the external services of religion, to think to atone for the looseness of their morals. But they are cursed who add to, as well as they who take from the words of this book, Rev_22:16, Rev_22:19; Pro_30:6."

This is not a slight matter of personal choice, as some would make it; neither a zealous ritual to be kept as it is asserted, to be the only other alternative. It is a day of delighting in God, with the people of God. It is to be ungodly to willfully violate any first table commandments by desire. Conformity to Christ is ever increasing conformity to the law of love to God (Commandments 1-4) and man (5-10).
See 1 Peter 4:17 This was another point made in the sermon, its want of being kept for increasing wealth in particular is a cause for God's judgment.

sc, The Lord Jesus kept the Sabbath 1/7th of the week belongs to God. If he had not perfectly kept it then God's people who have never perfectly keep it, would not have had their violations of it covered by his shed blood. Their violations of it whether in heart or in deed needed to be propitiated by Him who imputed it perfect keeping to us. It was the sabbath you describe, that the Lord argued against the Pharisees who thought one could do literally nothing. The sabbath is a creation ordinance. It still stands. Moses was told to 'Remember' the Sabbath day. That would indicate it was known and practiced before the giving of the law. You can't remember what you never knew.

The only holy day(s) according to Scripture is the Lord's day or Christian Sabbath. Man-made holy days are those inventions of men not commanded and regulated by Scripture. The observance of Jewish holy days were regulated by Scripture and that was the NT transition. The man who kept regulated holy days according to Scripture, kept it to the Lord because the Lord had previously regulated it. The Gentiles that had never observed these days did not unto the Lord.

Romans 14:6a in no way justifies man-made holy days, neither does it negated the duty of the Christian Sabbath.

QUOTE][AUTHOR]Christian[/AUTHOR]Neither of those verses include the terminology "Lord's Day" or "Sabbath."
These NT verses do:

Mat 12:8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
Mar 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Mar 2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.
Luk 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

God is immutible and His word changes not, it would seem that the burden is on you to prove that the NT removes from the law of Love to God and man the delight of having one whole day in seven to drink deeply from the wells of salvation, to sit at Christ's feet and learn of Him through the means appointed by Him. Also to prove that we have leisure on the other 6 days to do the same.
The epistle of 1 John removes the burden of the law as an instrument of death, to a NT description. Under Christ's righteousness imputed to a believer, the moral law of love towards God and man becomes our desire after sanctification being more and more conformed to Christ's fulfillment of the law. Fulfilled perfectly by Christ and we in Christ by faith desire now in love and gratitude to God, to set Him aside his portion, which he in love gave for our g

Adam's quilt and the corruption of his whole nature was imputed to his posterity. The soul that sins whether by imputed and/or actual guilt must die.

The second Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ come down from heaven, propitiated God's just and due wrath for the *sin* of his elect and imputed Christ's *perfect* righteousness which alone is the satisfactory work able to please God. A perfect keeping of the law is impossible for man in the present state. It is faith in Christ alone for he alone is able to satisfy all that is required of us by a thrice holy God.

The God/Man the only Mediator between God and man is the only acceptable offering for peace between God and man.

I am aware of the strong Protestant influence in N. Ireland and was stating that it is not without Romanist opposition; "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." (Ephesians 6:12)

I certainly would not be sorry about a strong Protestant influence in N. Ireland, but if you are aware that Rome is no longer trying to unseat it, I'd appreciate that information. Your twist to my meaning, indicated by your response, was not my intended statement.

Affirmation 2010 in Britain was an attempt for Protestantism to unite against a common opposition that was increasing but without first addressing those differences that remained among the visible Church. The sermon MS gave on this thread shed a little light for me on the reason it was attempted, but when God decrees it, all attempts will conform to His will (word and purpose).

I drifted away from the News disheartened after reading the majority comments on this thread; , I went to my e-mail and noted this and thought it a helpful defense, in part against the low state of the godly and the comfortable state of those who know not what godliness would consist of due to the prevailing ignorance of the day.

Beginning at pp42 this is the work of a Minister in Britain that has been again been put into print. This was a book that influenced true reformation in by-gone days. It is obvious it is necessary to stir up again to consideration what one would be 'revived' to do; as in the sight God and man, should the Lord be pleased to quicken his Church.

This article has a familiar ring to it. At least as regards the Star Chamber and Laud; Then I remembered it was from Rutherford's Letters. He wrote to Dr. Alexander Leighton (Banner Edition) who was both a minister of the Word and a practicing physician. He was a zealous Presbyterian incensed by Laud's innovations, he published 'Zion's Plea against Prelacy' in 1628. The Star Chamber sentenced him to branding on the face with the letters S.S. (sower of sedition)he was fined L 10,000 to the pillory, to whipping, his ear cut off and his nose slit and thereafter to life imprisonment. After 10 years he was released from prison, by the Long Parliament, his fine cancelled and L 6,000 voted to him for compensation.

Then with hardly a notice by the editor he commended one of his sons, the Archbishop of Glasgow for and his commentary on 1 Peter. Yet it was his father's stand against Prelacy that was the result of his persecution?

I found it no less odd on the second reading. The editor of the outline seemed to think it a commendable thing.

Finishing the article I was reminded history needs to interpret history, Church history not irreverent, Britain's history very much relates to American. There was the same obliviousness to suffering for what and by whom, in the wnd articl

@Ladybug

It was a good reminder of things of I have been taught by others especially as regards the worship of seraphim;
A. Brown “Perhaps the most marvelous picture of worship which we have in this book is that which is found in Isaiah 6. You know it well. The burning ones, the sons of fire, the seraphim, are worshiping; and how do they worship? I hear them cry, "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty; the whole earth is full of His glory!" They are not thinking of themselves. They are not concerned about their surroundings. Those seraphim are occupied with One, and that One is 'upon a throne high and lifted up' and, as the cadence of their song rises and falls, 'Holy, holy, holy', what do they do? They veil their faces, though they are seraphic, and they veil their feet, though they are unsoiled. They boast neither of their character, nor of their walk. It is self veiled, self hidden, self forgotten, self drowned — and God realized! May the Lord grant that when next we use this word 'worship' there may be a deeper meaning in it than, perhaps, there has been heretofore.

I rejoice for any reformation brought to the church as these men did; yet the best of men are men at best and we are to be always reforming. Did not hold his position on hymns of human composition.

Last evening I read Daniel 2 and this morning from a commentary on it on e-sword from a man named MacLaren.

Since this is the Lord's day it seemed appropriate to post this instructive and comforting comment made on Daniel 2:43,44
so as not to forget that God through the Mediator reigns over all.

"A thought from God is stronger than all armies, and outconquers conquerors. By the mystery of Christ’s Incarnation, by the power of weakness in the preachers of the Cross, by the energies of the transforming Spirit, the God of heaven has set up the kingdom. ‘It shall never be destroyed.’ Its divine origin guarantees its perpetual duration. The kingdoms of man’s founding, whether they be in the realm of thought or of outward dominion, ‘have their day, and cease to be,’ but the kingdom of Christ lasts as long as the eternal life of its King. He cannot die any more, and He cannot live discrowned."

On another thread Ladybug had strongly suggested a sermon in print on worship. I was reading it and this seemed the best response to the this article:

from Archibald Brown on Worship:"Humanity enthroned and worshiped is Satan's present preparation for an actual Antichrist. A day of terrible judgment is at hand for those who, in the pride of their heart, have thus deified humanity, for 'the lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted in that day. For the day of the Lord Almighty shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low, and the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the Lord alone shall be exalted."

Listened to the sermon you provided.
Was quite beneficial.
As regard to those of a differing opinion, perhaps the old saying "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still".
Would be in order...

A blessed day to you, mourner.
Thank you MS. The Lord provided me much strength to get ready for colder weather today and then sent my oldest son to help with the last preparations of the day, when I was so tired.

Blessed Lord's Day to you and yours as we rest in the finished work of Christ
the Lord.

Psa 84:9 Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed.
Psa 84:10 For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
Psa 84:11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
Psa 84:12 O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.

Truly, it is a blessed day to anticipate.
And if the Lord does not allow even the place of a door keeper just now, he chastens those he loves as sons by placing them among the wicked of this world; yet I will hope on and anticipate better things for the Church of Jesus Christ, His Bride.

In my post of 11:00AM I meant to say: he would only come to my door *with* a second, his wife. I know that because she told me, he requested she go with him to pick up something at my house. She didn't want to because she wasn't feeling well, but he insisted. She said I don't know what he's afraid of?

Sorry, I've made a number of type errors in my haste today. Didn't mean to confuse any.

In the course of my day, I've learned of two strange events occurring in town. One came in a letter from a Methodist Church female lay leader about prayers for the dead, on all saints day Yike! That the Lord would help with a Scriptural response.

The other is an historical event that is not one to be remembered but to mourn for, this criminal tragedy is being presented in a play. Very strange for this place. I warned my neighbor not to attend and why.

Psalm 46 still applies.

Thankful to God for your safety.

Need to rescue my remaining garden from the killing frost predicted, so I'll be brief here.

There is the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent, and it is a little flock, but God rules by decree over all by creation and providence as he presided over your situation in providence yesterday, he did in mine as well, making someone afraid of me, so he would only come to my door without a second, his wife. It couldn't have been a carnal fear. I'm not very threatening.

Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psa 46:2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
Psa 46:3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

I stated to Rodney "I had so many mixed thoughts from all that I heard. But it appeared that this Minister of a Congregationalist Church in
N. Ireland in 2011 'was' brought to the position of exclusive psalmody from studying Church History." I didn't embellish for I thought it wise to write to the man who preached before a public intranet comment.
I posted a sermon from the Scripture and everyone has ignored that, but argues history, both are important, Scripture has the pre-eminence as I stated previously.

Independent believers? of God? of their brethren? This is not about church government, this is a matter of the worship of God. Sin against GOD, as all sin is, but this more directly.

There is a you-tube debate that grieved me deeply, between two ministers in N. Ireland, Ian Foster/Angus Stewart. The aggressive remarks came from an opposer of psalmody/commanded.

N. Ireland has strong Romanist influence in high places - recent history
