I liked 'Atlas Shrugged' the novel, and I've never seen the movie. I do agree with many parts of her philosophy most notably that we shouldn't depend on the government to redistribute the wealth. She also addresses what is becoming a real concern in today's America. That is providing people with money based on what they need rather than what they do. In the novel, individuals and companies are taxed and regulated so much that they are no better off for their ideas and hard work than the guy who sits at home trying to "find himself". Eventually, this leads to a creative vaccum and financial collapse. In this particular novel, from what I remember, organized religion is what she was against, and I think the church was in league with the politicos, also trying to get their share of the wealth. It's a loooong book, but I would reccomend it if you like distopia sci-fi type stories with a 1940s feel to it. Anyway, I like parts of her philosophy and Atlas Shrugged was a good book. Her personal life, especially the athiesim and affairs, are things I would choose not to emulate. |
