I was not aware of this award even existed. When I was a kid, I read one book that won the Newberry Award, "It's Like This Cat" which I liked. But I did not look for any other books that had won that award. As an adult, I found a book in the library called "1,001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up" and it led me to some wonderful books, like the Betsy Tacy series, and Rudyard Kipling's "Kim"

I guess the Swedish mainstream media could not hide the facts from the people. The internet has a way of getting around them anyway. The days when everyone read the same newspaper to get 'all the news' are long gone, and we realize now, more than ever, the power of those newspapers to cover up things like President John F. Kennedy's extramarital affairs.
I wonder if those immigrants had been Spanish or Portuguese or Polish or Hungarian Christians, would they have these problems?
I don't think so. The issue is Muslims, and their little-known trait of attacking any woman walking alone on the street, at any time of the day or night. For them, a woman's place is in the home, under the complete control of her husband or father. Any woman who is alone on the street is a 'street walker' and deserves whatever a Muslim man wants to give her.

I am very happy with these decisions.
I am very happy with the retirement of Justice Kennedy. I look forward to seeing a conservative justice replace him.

If there ever was a case to say that 'elections have consequences' then this is it. There is a difference between Democrats and Republicans and this is a key one.
Another is the way Dems have decided to show their opposition to anyone who disagrees with them. There is no debate, no calm and reasonable interchange of ideas. Instead, you have people 'behaving badly' (to say the least). They really need to wear Brown Shirts to show how similar they are to the folks who supported the National Socialist Party in Germany in the 1930s, and the Fascists in Italy with Mussolini.

It makes you wonder what other things are being preached by this man. It is a fact that 99 percent of the black vote is for Democrats. If you have early voting in your area, do they allow it on the Sunday before the Tuesday Election Day? In Florida it was done without Sunday voting, and black pastors complained that it was unfair, that 'their' people (almost like saying, my slaves)cannot vote on any other day because they are working 6 days a week. And thus, they made this Sunday the Big Day for blacks voting. I can well imagine the Democrat Party had something to do with this, including putting some 'spending money' in the pockets of these 'pastors.'
I think Early Voting is just a way for Democrats to win elections. Not every state has it, and some make it hard even to vote by absentee ballot. How does it work in yours?

The category of farmers also include fishermen and forestry workers. All 3 are very dangerous professions. And remember, suicide as cause of death on a death certificate is not frequently used, because the family does not want that to be on the public record, nor do news media want to report it.
I heard about a new express passenger train just started operating in SE Florida, called Brightline, and people have started to kill themselves by jumping in front of it.
It is interesting to compare these dangerous professions, along with roofers, construction workers, and convenience store clerks, with firemen and police. The latter groups can retire after 25 yrs with a large portion of their salary (more than 60 percent usually), but what about those roofers, farmers, fishers, etc?

Yes, it certainly looks like Mexico is collapsing, but Americans still visit it, in carefully controlled areas like Cancun and Cozumel. It used to be a place where Americans low on resources would go to retire, thinking they could live well on a minimal Social Security income.
Unlike many aliens in the US, those retirees will not be voting in this Sunday's election, where the most important office, the President, looks to be won by a confirmed leftist candidate.
Some might wonder whether the Richest Man in the World, Mexican resident Carlos Slim, will call him into his office and read him 'the riot act.'
Remember when they said, if we legalize marijuana, the drug traffic will disappear? Well, I read that Colombia has just had a record-breaking crop of the coca plant.
And the Mexican gangs do not seem to be going out of business.

He is probably looking over at Zimbabwe, where they attack the white farmers, then appropriate their lands. So he will try to imitate them and get the white's real estate properties taken from them, allowing them to live there or move out, with no compensation.
We may see an increase of these refugees from South Africa. What is truly ironic is that, though white, they will become 'African Americans!'

I like this part of the article: "Now, scientists suggest that these sparrows preserve their cultural traditions as efficiently as humans do, if not more so."
It reminds me of Paul's advice to Timothy about keeping traditions.
And, although National Geographic is liberal in viewpoint, promoting evolution as much as they can, it seems like they are saying that those who want to change our culture, by approving and promoting aberrations like the 'one percenters' (sodomites).

I've read that 99 percent of the inmates in any jail believe in God. Of course, that might include some pretty weird and bizarre ideas of what their God is. But I think many of those inmates would say they are Christian, but got caught in a moment of weakness, or that 'the Man' is against them because of the color of their skin.

And, I can already figure out how those close pals of the Democrat Party, the mainstream media, is going to cover this issue. As with any of their favorite topics, you will not hear or see a fair and balanced view. They will not interview Al Mohler or any other conservative Christian leader. Instead, it will be pictures of the sodomites smiling and looking happy and sincere in their beliefs, saying things like 'God is love.'

Combining the 2 agencies would be good news, a first step in reducing to 0 the Education Dept budget. Better to have eliminated it entirely.
But, now that this news has surfaced, the Democrat's friends in the media will start playing it for their own benefit; you will not get a fair and balanced view of the topic.

Say, while we are on the subject of saving $$, let's talk about Afghanistan. How long have we been there? Have we done any good? The Taliban is still powerful, killing people every week, if anyone pays attention. Meanwhile, we ship boatloads of $$ to pay off the local leaders to keep things safe. And then those drones you hear about, that's a million dollar program. Each time they kill off some leader, another one rises up to take his place.

Sounds like Canada is heading in the same direction as San Francisco. A good thing about this news item is that it will attract more of the nut cases in the US.

Genetic modification of plants has been going on for a long long time. If you like orange juice, it comes from "GM" trees. If you eat broccoli or cauliflower, same thing.

Brassica oleracea is a plant species that includes many common foods as cultivars, including cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts, and collard greens.

In another century, this was called "Yellow Journalism" so there's not much news here, except that social media is the source of many folks' view of the world. Few people read newspapers or magazines.
Society is more divided than ever because each person is tuned into their favorite source, and has their own view of the facts.
For example, current controversy over 'separation of families' is about something that the US govt. has been doing way before the current President came to office. I think the Democrat Party, not able to sell their views directly to the public, is using the media to play this issue into their hands. Their bottom line is AMNESTY FOR ALL. Watch how the Republicans, under pressure from the media stories, will bend.

Thanks, Frank, for that info from Germany. You added an element I had forgotten, which is part of the Islamic culture--any woman alone on the street, especially at night, is considered to be a prostitute. I hope this message gets out to anyone living near them, especially in the US where we think we are free.

I doubt the validity of the study, in part because it is from "Pew Research" which means it is liberal in bent, and seeking to explain only things that fit within that ideology. Lack of religion is a good thing for them. Better to look at Barna Research for information on Christianity.
World-wide? How did they speak to the millions of Hindus in India, the Buddhists in Thailand, the Japanese with Confucianism? And when dealing with Islamists, the principle of 'taqqiya' applies, which means they can lie and deceive, if they believe they are doing it for the good of their religion.

I wonder if these same African Islamic folk are the same ones we see in boats crossing the Mediterranean to go to Europe. I've heard of cases in Netherlands where they have killed Jews, just for being Jews. Will Europe learn they are not coming there to help anyone?
Finland is safer; I heard some of these refugees left the country because they couldn't handle the cold weather!

I think it's quite appropriate the location for his remains, since the people in that cathedral have little to do with the gospel.
Somewhere I did hear of an increase in attendance at these European cathedrals, but it was related to their music concerts, much as this article mentions the music of Holst, etc.
And, as we see in baseball stadiums in the US, one thing is the 'official attendance' count and the visual evidence when you watch video highlights of a game and see hundreds of empty seats. For example, yesterday in the famous Camden Yards, I saw very few fans but their official number was nearly 24,000!
So, if anyone boasts of a resurgence in attendance at European Cathedrals, ask them if that is attendance at church services or concerts?

I read elsewhere that a convention of techies was held there, and they were horrified by what they saw. They decided--let's not come back here again.
It is interesting that conservative talk show host Michael Savage still lives there, and it is through him that I first found out about these conditions.
Some may scoff at previous comments about this coming to your neighborhood, but if you have a Starbucks there, you might see them becoming homeless encampments, since they are changing their policy on staying there without paying for anything. Your liberals will still feel a need to support them, so they won't be closing down right away. At some point, they will, and then the issue will be transferred to other fast food restaurants that have bathrooms.
