Minnow wrote:Sad to see the Polygamy thread closed, but obvious to see why. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. Isn't that like all the doctrinal disputes when you come up against the dogmatic and doctrinaire. As Jesus taught you shall judge them by their fruit.Matt 7:16 "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Matt 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
St Jeremiah wrote:I was married twice and divorced twice. Long story....but I blame myself for what went wrong. My last divorce was over 15 years ago. Cannot find a Christian lady to date in Utah. I cannot shake the stigma divorce has for me that hinders dating. I'm like a used car of another era that has too many miles that nobody is interested in.
Matt 7:16 "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Matt 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them."
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1Ti 4:3 Forbidding to marry...
Thats preety clear.
While on the subject, LadyinChrist, the passages in the NT about eunuchs are rather interesting. I'd imagine there are many interpretations of such. I think the Roman Catholic Church uses it to support the obligatory celibacy(which made headlines here not long ago), but that doesn't rhyme well with the Apostle Paul's warning of forbidding marriage.
Hope you're not waiting for a marriage proposal on here before you get married?
We are grateful for the Old Testament scriptures that warn of pride etc and show the terrible consequences that befell Israel
I know of some Christians who are divorced and not of their own doing. In both cases the men where decieved into believing their wives were Christians. This resulted in heart ache and in one case children were involved. I tell you this because I know the pain divorce can bring but I would also like to say that remarriage after divorce weither you were in the write or wrong is not biblical. Also in regards to the dating issue it is said in the Bible that to have lustful thoughts for another person is still considered adultery (10 commandments) and so I believe that tells us when we are divorced that it is wrong to date or even think of others in that way, hard as this may be. I am not meaning to judge or cause offence and I am only responding as I felt your comment was heartfelt.
