Earlier in the book Hoeksema teaches that the witness of the church is that God is Creator. He moves from that, to the truth that God is the living God.
“When the scriptures reveal God to us as the living God, the implication is that this harmonious relation and reaction, this fellowship, is in the highest and absolute sense in him. God is life, and he alone has life in himself. This is the great significance of the confession of the church that God is triune. This doctrine implies that God is one in essence and nature, in mind and will, in power and wisdom, in holiness and righteousness, in life and love. This means that he is a personal God and not a mere force or blind power”. ~from Knowing God and Man by Herman Hoeksema, RFPA 2006 Pg 47-48.
