“ East and West. ” A presentation of the development in the East, especially John of Damascus, and in the West, the rediscovery of Aristotelian philosophy and it's use in theology.
“ Where is significance? ” Postmodern ideas: there is not ultimate significance in the text, the reader is creating the significance of the text. There is no absolute interpretation, there are as many interpretations as readers. Power can make one particular interpretation normative.
“ Interpretation. ” The interpretation schools of Alexandria and Antioch, Clement of Alexandria and Origen, Theodor of Mopsuestia and Theodoret. The idea of apostolic succession.
“ Allegorical interpretation. ” Useful presentation of Philo's allegorical interpretation of the Scriptures as learned from Plato. Greek philosophy used in Biblical interpretation and it's dangers.
“ Good information. ” Interesting observations about the qumranic interpretation of OT and the early Christian, Christological interpretation of the OT.
“ Biblical interpretation. ” Contributions of Anselm, Abelard and Aquinas to biblical hermeneutics, followed by Luther's and Calvin's contributions. Rejection of allegorical interpretation, adoption of literal interpretation and of the Sola Scriptura principle.
