“ Pressing Into the Kingdom ” This lecture was given in S.S. in 2003. It deals with the whole subject of "Counseling the Awakened Sinner" not only in the sermons of Jonathan Edwards, but Thomas Boston, Samuel Davies, John Owen on the Holy Spirit and other puritans. It was an introduction to a paper I wrote called, "The Antecedents to Regeneration" and the Charge of Preparations in Reformed Preaching examined, and online here.

Because the lecture was short, I have a little more discussion that I have added at the end from this same paper. The interesting contrast comes in placing Edwards' "Narrative" descriptions of persons under awakening, next to the pilgrim in Pilgrims Progress description in Bunyan's book of this name.

“ Great Sermon! ” Praise GOD for this huge bulk of biblical information, it created a mad rush of blood through my face, a burning in my heart, (like the two people on the Emmaus road), a lingering hunger for more all day long, moves into my sub-conscious during sleep, and talking to GOD in the early morning after a sweet nights sleep. “ Dabney's VA Defense Critique explained ” C Gregg Singer states so well in his book, A Theological Interpretation of American History that it has been customary and fashionable to claim the secession of the south was only to defend slavery as an economic institution and the rights of states as their main weapon for their defense of slavery, but to overlook the theological forces at work is to seriously misread the records... I know that Dabney knew this. So it is puzzling that in his Defense of Va and the South he doesn't deal with the unitarianism and atheism of the abolitionist movement, but defends southern slavery and the economic effects of abolition. For this reason I felt it necessary to examine his Defense. Very helpful as well is the teaching of John Otis on this subject SID=418051862 on Sermon Audio
“ God forming a man. ” A presentation of the years between 1934 to 1952, from childhood (the lessons learned in the home of the parents) to conversion and the first months of the life with Christ, serving the Lord through testimony, imparting tracts and preaching. Great encouragement and challenge for teenagers and young men.
“ What is worth in reading Lewis. ” An exposition based on the second part of Terry Glaspey's book, "Not A Tame Lion", focusing on the positive and healthy teaching of Lewis. Containing the subjects: longing; reality of God; Jesus Christ; pain; emotions; prayer; pleasure; politics; love; death; heaven. We have what to learn from Lewis.

Very many thanks for this wonderful presentation about the life of A. W. Pink. I learnt such a lot from listening to what you had to say, having previously not known much about the life of this servant of God.
Yes, all men have feet of clay so-to-speak, but the fact that God greatly used Arthur Pink is beyond question.

“ Refuting emergent church theology. ” Presentation and refutation of theological distinctive of emergent church: deconstruction; preference for experience over truth; rejection of preaching, stress on story telling; stress on images in worship over Word of God.
“ Good presentation. ” Emergent church is post-modern culture in religious cloths, not only Christian cloths, but borrowing from all kind of spiritualities. It is dedicated to follow the culture in it's changes, so it is departing more and more from real Christianity.
“ Historical Background ” This S. S. is an examination of Charles Hodge's critique of the Great Awakening from his book, The Constitutional History of the Presbyterian Church. The section is called, "The Great Revival." Whether one agrees with his conclusions or not, his analysis is what one would expect from this great theologian of the 19th century, astute and discerning. The result is a warning about trusting in feelings or mental images issuing in a false conversion. An examination of the mysterious subject of "sympathy" and its effects in a revival is discussed as well. Also, it looks at the development of Jonathan Edwards' wisdom as a revival theologian leading to his famous work on the "Religious Affections."
“ Excellent! ” Positive and attractive, warm and convincing, detailed presentation of C.S. Lewis' life. I listened to it with pleasure. Good selection, god stressing of important points, good commentaries. Refreshing!
“ Great Sermon! ” As a student of Edwards I have to say that this sermon stands out more than any other sermon of this site.(I admit to my bia's!) Thanks to TMS for the information background. So true it has to be of the Holy Spirit. Who without our work is as clay.
“ Great Sermon! ” Far from proving communism, this text establishes that meeting the needs of her own is the prerogative of the church (not the state). Perhaps the welfare state would be dealt a lethal blow if each church practiced this type of Spirit-filled generosity. The Kingdom of Christ would be enlarged and the encroachments of the state would be diminished! Thus can we give legs to our prayer “Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
“ Great Sermon! ” I get a cold like you do and I thought I was the only one. Great to know others are like me. Great sermon, we need more of this. Great positive sermon, as their are a lot of sermons saying doom doom, which is part of salvation I agree, but lets have the other side too. A balance of Love Joy Peace Longsuffering etc as well as realizing what sin is and it's punishment. Count it all JOY, Jesus said, lets do that often. Great lets have lots more JOY.
