Music "While the new hymns were being written and sung throughout England, many American churches and ministers opposed them. Not until well after the middle of the eighteenth century did English hymns achieve a significant place in American worship." That was an article written about how Isaac Watts was criticized for his music.
I agree that many songs of those groups are shallow and may not mention "Jesus" enough for you in its lyrics but we should all be careful of condemning as evil when it simply doesn't suit our tastes. Choose what's best for your congregation without giving a blanket accusation of calling someone who truly loves the Lord as heretical.
For example, tell me how you like this popular song that has been printed more often than any modern hymn? This is a part of Psalm 140:
"For the choir director. A Davidic psalm.
9 When those who surround me rise up, may the trouble their lips cause overwhelm them.
10 Let hot coals fall on them.
Let them be thrown into the fire,
into the abyss, never again to rise.
11 Do not let a slanderer stay in the land.
Let evil relentlessly hunt down a violent man."
How popular was that? Song in a choir.
Great Sermon! Hello, I used to be a member of berean. I would like to recommend Sandra L. Richter’s Jonah study. I enjoy yours much more but on page 93 what is written pertains to what you say in your particular study for chapter 3. At least in my opinion. God bless you for sharing the gospel and I will continue to watching from here. I miss berean very much. God bless you all.
Atheism: Adopted by Actors and Actresses We ought to remember Psalm 14:1 in times where atheism appears to be rising in prominence. Surprisingly, atheism is becoming adopted by actors and actresses, who surprisingly understand some of the key beliefs of The Bible. One such example is a quote from British actress Keira Knightley (born 26 March, 1985) who said, "If only I wasn't an atheist, I could get away with anything. You'd just ask for forgiveness and then you'd be forgiven. It sounds much better than having to live with guilt." There needs to be more sermons like these in response to atheism.
Sexual Perversion: Deserving Execution As noted in The Old Testament, sexual perversion was punished by execution by stoning. Unfortunately, there is a growing consensus by people saying that capital punishment should be outlawed and abolished on grounds that it is cruel and unusual. In the days of Puritan rule, their society was modeled after Old Testament Israel. It should be noted that Our Lord is Righteous and Holy and His Methods of Punishment are Righteous, even those which are cruel and unusual.
Superheroes: Rebels Against The Lord It should be noted that superheroes from DC, Marvel, and other comic book publishers are really rebels against The Lord. There are numerous depictions of superheroes battling against an all powerful being like Darkseid from DC and Thanos from Marvel. Of course, DC and Marvel are likening Darkseid and Thanos to Yehovah, The True God of Israel. This sermon shows that superhero media is a distraction used by Satan.
Great Sermon! Both the article and the comments of the elders were good and candid. As a Black believer I agree that the first obligation is to preach the Gospel. I would add that some type of written or oral statement be given to addresses the local congregation's stance in view of the overall community in which their members belong to. Ambiguity when it comes to race is a tool for the adversary.
The elephant in the room that was not addressed is that in most areas in America Christ is indeed divided racially; and if that is in your community then both sides are at fault. For Christ's sake, His body should not be divided like a chicken into white and dark. Remember: We have been given the ministry of Reconciliation. This is something that not only should be done but must and can be done for only the Body can do this. Don't confuse the Body with American citizenry. Let's get it straight in our own congregations first. Actions must be done by all leaders by both bodies by visiting and welcoming brothers and sisters from other congregations.
Finally, don't despise or judge how racial culture forms a local congregation's worship. In the Psalms are songs that require silence, exuberance, physical action, loud noise, tears, and even anger. If it is not your "thing" then don't participate.
Eminem: Rebellious Gangbanger It should be noted that Eminem is really a rebellious gangbanger. The music pushed by this rapper has been influencing people to join gangs. Of course, rap music has always been associated with gang culture, especially since most rappers like 50 Cent (Curtis Jackson) look like gangbangers in their manner of apparel. Rap music, also known as hip hop, which is just another variant of rock music, is rooted in rebellion against righteous authority. This is because rap music is centered around vices like gang culture, lasciviousness, and narcotic usage. Rap music even sounds like the music of cocaine addicts. This sermon shows that rap music is really Satan's music since Satan is the original rebel.
A Look At Cannabis While the cannabis plant has various useful applications like industrial hemp, CBD (Cannabinoid) a non-intoxicating compound and commonly known medicine, the problem with cannabis is that it can also be abused for the purpose of intoxication. Since our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost, there is no need for intoxication. There needs to be more sermons discussing the issue of cannabis.
Social Justice: Promoting Humanism The real objective of "social justice" is to promote a humanistic principle of "human rights for all" which seemingly sounds innocuous, but in reality, it requires compromise, including that of divisive Biblical doctrines like Eternal Punishment in Sheol (the Old Testament Hebrew name for Hell) for unregenerate sinners. As this sermon also points out, the term "social justice" was coined by the popish Jesuit by the name of Luigi Taparelli. This means that "social justice" is also a concept rooted in popery, and such "social justice" seeks to erase the Protestant Reformation. We are not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers, even for the cause of humanistic "social justice" and "civil rights". Not surprisingly, the LGBT movement has been pushing "social justice" and "civil rights" against Bible believers who oppose their lifestyle choices on Biblical Grounds of Righteousness. As this sermon shows, "social justice" is the antithesis of Biblical Righteousness.
Good conversation There is a good life principal: If you can't afford it, then you don't get it.
You can either steal it, or get in debt, both are unrighteous methods.
The church can't afford a pastor, so be it, close the doors, drive an extra 1 hour to another church.
This works for missions, can't afford to go to Rome ? You can beg, or you can save.
If it's really a burden on your heart to bring the gospel to rome, Then promote that burden in your own church, put up flyers, constantly remind people to pray for rome, feed the roman immigrants in your city. Instead of complaining, you have instead shown you truly love your burden, and have done more to support it locally instead of doing nothing.
DC: Devil's Comics This sermon literally shows why the DC in DC Comics stands for Devil's Comics. Of course, the vain imaginations of comic book artists show that their comic books are the Devil's Comics. This means that the superhero characters are the product of artists under Satanic influence.
Hate Label Used Against Exclusivists In the war against The Kingdom of Yehovah, any form of exclusivism is to be regarded as "hate speech" or a "hate crime." The desire to make America more "pluralistic" stems from the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which was devised for the purpose of erasing the early Puritan Foundation in the American continent. Then again, this world, including the United States of America, is Satan's Kingdom. Thus, it is no surprise that inclusivists and liberals would want Bible Believers prosecuted with what they refer to as "hate crimes." Sadly, the governments of the nations of the world are pushing for more inclusivism in society, meaning that this world is not our home, but the Eternal Kingdom of Yerushaláyim is our Eternal Home. It is better for us to suffer momentary persecution from the world, even if that means being prosecuted for "hate crimes", than to enjoy the "benefits" of greatness in Satan's kingdom. This sermon really shows that the world will hate us because of Jesus.
