Why Christians are to submit to all types of government according to Romans 13:1-7:
#1: To recognize our place under the authority of God, 1 #2: To avoid resisting the authority of God, 2a, 3 #3: To escape the punishment of God, 2b, 4 #4: To maintain a good conscience before God, 5 Romans 12:1-2;1 Timothy 2:1-3; Proverbs 21:1
Review of three principles: Principle #1: Every Christian is to submit to everything the government requires of him or her, even if it is oppressive, unjust, or against one’s own personal standards and beliefs, as long as what the government requires is not contrary to what God requires in His word
Principle #2: It is much more pleasing to God that Christians maintain His ordained authority structure in government by submitting to it, no matter how flawed that government is, than to rebel against it even if it violates His moral standards
Principle #3: From God’s standpoint, regardless of how bad a government is, any government is better than no government at all
When Christians are called by God to disobey the government: #1: Christians are called to disobey the government when it calls them to unjustly take human life Exodus 2: 7, 15-22
Principle #1: When God’s people are called by government to unjustly take a human life, they are to disobey that command |
