As we are reminded of God’s Son who came down from heaven to earth, travelled humanity’s course from the womb to the tomb, and expressed His divinity from the grave to the sky, I would like for us to focus on God Incarnate, the Word which became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus, God’s Eternal Son, was born. What a miracle! Love came down. As a sinner in need of a Savior, I want to know more about my Lord. I want to know and understand Him deeper. I want to walk with Him closer. I want to be more like Him in every area of my life. I want to appreciate what He has done, worship Him more sincerely, and love Him more deeply. Today, we will turn our attention to the book of John and take our reading from the Prologue (beginning of the book) in verse 1-18. Matthew’s gospel opens up with the royal genealogy of Jesus and presents Jesus as the Royal King. Mark’s gospel does not have a genealogy because it is written to reveal Jesus Christ as the Suffering Servant. A servant’s genealogy is not all that important in regards to lineage. Luke’s gospel reveals Jesus as the Son of Man and connects Jesus genealogy of going back to Adam, although He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and did not inherit Adam’s original sin. John’s gospel is concerned with revealing Jesus as the Son of God. The goal of the book of John is stated in John 20:30-31 “And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” |
