Paul gives the glorious news that all believers have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Not some blessings. Every blessing! Not physical blessings on earth. Spiritual blessings in the heavenly places. There is nothing we lack for the good of our soul, because God has not withheld a single thing from us. One of the spiritual blessings is election. Before the foundation of the world, God chose us to be saved and to be holy and blameless before Him. We were not chosen because we were good. We were awful. We were not chosen because God foresaw we would reform our lives. We would do no such thing. We were chosen, not because we were holy, but in order to make us holy and blameless. God does not choose everyone for salvation. He chooses some. In fact, He chooses a relatively small portion of humanity. If you are saved, what gratitude you should have for God's unspeakable and inexplicable kindness toward you. And if He chose us, not we Him, then we should be humble and boast only in the cross of Christ.
