Thesis: Does God see the human race as inherently good or bad? Is there hope for the human race in and of itself?
I. The corruption of the human race (vv1-3) A. The Fool says there is no God 1. The human race, in one way or another, denies in their hearts that God exists. 2. Practical atheism 3. Psalm 19:1-4 - God has made it clear that he is here! 4. Romans 1:18-23 - it makes no sense to deny God and to deny that he will one day judge the world. B. They are corrupt, they do Abominable deeds...to the Most High God 1. Man is morally rotten/decayed 2. We are born with a sinful nature 3. Psalm 58:3 - "estranged from the womb"/Speaking lies 4. Romans 1:24-32 5. Ephesians 2:1-3 C. This corruption is universal 1. Romans 3 - No one is exempt II. The Persecution of the Righteous A. The unconverted person is hostile towards God, it is only natural for them to hostile towards His people. John 15:18
III. Salvation Comes from Zion (v7) A. David longs for the time when God would make things right. B. Romans 9:33/Romans 11:23 C. Hebrews 12:22-24
Conclusions:
The hope for mankind does not lie in ourselves, it lies in Jesus Christ, the salvation from Zion. Left to ourselves there is only judgement for we would be universally condemned. God has provided a way of escape, Jesus Christ the Righteous.
