1) We continued the discussion on whether salvation can actually be lost and sought to expound more on the statement of Hebrews 6 vs 4, 5 which many use to support the idea that a blood bought believer can lose their salvation.
2) Again, the text cannot be understood outside of its Old Testament roots-particularly as the writer is very much steeped in the Exodus and Wilderness sojourn experience of Israel.
3) Without that understanding-one may come to the false understanding that salvation can be lost. It is not a faithful position to teach or believe that Christ will lose any of His sheep. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO LOSE SALVATION.
4) Yes, it is impossible to bring a person to repentance who once was enlightened by the message of the gospel. But to be enlightened does not mean to be saved. It means to be exposed to the truth. We expounded on this matter again and weaved it together with the Parable of the different soils (Mark 4). And so, if one is not saved when they are enlightened to the truth-God has no other Son or any other gospel by which He can save someone. And yet repentance happens only by God. If one has not the Holy Spirit in them-they can hear the truth and will ultimately fall away-but it does not mean they actually lost their salvation. They never possessed it.
5) So, Israel in the wilderness was enlightened by God's presence, the Holy Spirit was in their midst-testifying of Christ-but not in them. They experienced many signs, but witnessing miracles does not cause salvation. Unless one is born again they will not believe and will not be saved no matter how religious they get.
