Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's last public words were his prophecy that his people would "get to the promised land" because, from the mountain-top, he had seen "the glory of the coming of the Lord."
Dr. King was a man of this world, and not the next. Sadly, he did not trust in the promise of the resurrection of the saints in Christ. Therefore, he was left only to seek justice and right in this life.
As Christians witness America's slide into degradation and wickedness, many are filled with panic and fear.
But our joy ought not to come primarily from the things of this life, rather from the far better things that we possess in our Glorious Lord!
The Lord Jesus urged His people to look to His Righteousness and seek God's Kingdom, rather than be weighed down with concern for any temporal blessings.
Christ warned His people of the hatred of the world, having everything taken from us in this world, and even being put to death. But He promised that, in all this, not an hair of our heads would perish, because He will set all things right when He raises us all to eternal life one day.
He promised that He is preparing a glorious place for us in Heaven, and that one day He will come and take us home with Him to Glory!
This faith of the Saints is seen in David's rest in the sure hope of the resurrection, and in Abraham's satisfaction in the heavenly country that is to come, which God has made for His people.
Abraham is our great example: we must obey God, and do what is right and honorable, but not to expect the good stuff in this life.
When, like Abraham, we see little good in this life, we are to trust, like Abraham, in God's promises for the Glory one day! |
