Paul triumphed over extreme difficulties because he bowed to God's sovereignty whereby God is constantly working to bring about His comprehensive salvation. The sermon shows that salvation often refers to the complete restoration of all things and that the ultimate purpose for this restoration is Christ's exaltation. When God's children and all of creation are perfected, that is the final goal of salvation because this is what magnifies Christ. Paul knew that his difficulties were part of God's plan to sanctify him and he was confident that through the prayers of the saints and the working of the Spirit, he would do all things in accordance with the truth and thus magnify the Lord.

Great Sermon! This sermon exposes how we create romantic or fantasy visions of how our life should be based on "snapshots" and "trinkets" we take from the lives of others. Only by being sober minded and seeking God for wisdom and grace in our real life circumstances can we know and serve God.
Be quick to trust God's sovereignty in painful and bewildering circumstances and do not try to escape by envy of others or by thinking thinking this is all a mistake or by doubting that God is in control of all the details.
