Mottel's sermon today is entitled "What In The World Is Jesus Doing In Synagogue?" In Luke chapter 4, he will recount the story of Jesus' reading from The Old Testament book of Isaiah and His declaration of Messiahship to those present in the temple. Certainly scandalous and confusing to all those in attendance. The Jewish authorities of the time were loyal more to the traditions and power of men than to the hope of God found in the scriptures. The message of Jesus was a threat to their power and traditions. We must have a faith informed from the scripture and not our own understanding.
