On Fathers Day, we celebrate the love our earthly fathers gave to us. That love is scarcely noted by children, because true love is sacrifice, and children cannot comprehend the cost of the father's provision and care and discipline. The things children appreciate are but the fringes of the father's love. Only when they grow up can they truly appreciate the sacrifice of their father's love for them.
Our Father in Heaven loves His sons with a fervent love. That love is comprehended by us as we consider the great cost of our redemption: the precious blood of His Dear Son the Lord Jesus!
The Pope recently made the ludicrous assertion that all mankind, even atheists, have been redeemed by God and adopted as His sons! Yet the Roman Catholic system preaches that most will be consigned to Hell forever because they did not obey the church's teachings and because they broke God's law.
But if we are redeemed, that means we are not under the penalty of the law, and we are justified and made righteous before God. Thus, the Pope's false teaching tramples upon the blood of Jesus, making it of none effect by adding works righteousness.
But his false doctrine also insults the Father, because the Father provided that redemption, which according to the Pope is gravely defective. God can redeem a person and yet still condemn him to judgment forever!
The Pope says that as adopted sons, we're not safe with our Father, but subject to wrath. What an insult to the Father's love and sacrifice for us!
God's purpose of redemption is to make all His sons safe forever in His family! Redemption is not just for our benefit, but God's also, because He wants us safe forever with Him!
