In Hebrews 3:12 God said the generation of Israelites in the wilderness had "evil unbelieving hearts." Similarly, in Luke 11:29 when the Jews asked for a sign, Jesus said they were "an evil generation." Both generations were evil because of how much reason they had to believe. Jesus used the Queen of Sheba's example to rebuke the Jews. She went to hear Solomon's wisdom, and she came to faith in God. Even though the Jews had "a greater than Solomon" in Jesus, they were unbelieving and they rejected Jesus' wisdom.
Family Worship Guide: Memory Verses: Luke 11:31
Day 1: Read Romans 10:10, Hebrews 3:8-15, 4:2 and discuss: Where does (and doesn't) belief and unbelief take place? What does the Promised Land represent for Church Age believers? What did the two unbelieving generations see that made their hearts "evil"? When did the Gospel begin?
Day 2: Read Luke 11:31, 49; 1 Cor 1:24, 30; Col 2:3; John 1:1, 14 and discuss: Why does it fall short to say Jesus is wiser than Solomon? Why did the Queen of Sheba visit Solomon? What can we learn from her example? Why did she serve as a rebuke to the Jews in Jesus' day?
Day 3: Read Pro 3:14-15, 8:11, 19; Pro 16:16 cf. Pro 2:4, 3:13, 4:5, 7, and 1 Kings 10:9 and discuss: How does Scripture encourage us to view wisdom? What does Scripture command us to do with wisdom? How can we protect ourselves against foolishness? How much time are spending in God's Word? Do you spend your time in such a way that it reveals you value wisdom?
