The demands of the Master are that the disciples are wholeheartedly devoted to Him. The double-minded man is unstable in all his ways, but the one who clings to the Master is the one who truly loves Him and serves Him.
Jesus describes true discipleship in demanding terms in this passage, as He did in many other passages. As we look at His Word and consider His words, there is a question that is demanded of us: Toward whom will we set our hearts?
It must be a single-hearted aim. We cannot aim at two targets simultaneously. We must choose one, or the other.
Therefore, let us set our eyes on Jesus and lay aside all those worldly cares that so easily entangle and strive to reach the high calling of our Lord's full salvation.
Thankfully, it is the Lord who works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure. In His Word He has given us everything we need to be fully equipped for every good work.
