One of the sure indicators of true spirituality and preludes to God's further blessing is true sorrow for sin expressed in contrite, concrete confession. I. We should not be surprised that corporate confession of sin was prominent in the revival recorded in Nehemiah--it is the appropriate response to the holiness of God revealed in His law. II. Because we continue to sin, confession remains an essential element of worship and life. III. Our sin ought to so humble us as to show itself in outward forms of contrition, though not necessarily in the same forms as believers of other cultures. IV. Sorrow for sin, if real, will always be accompanied by repentance (turning from sin toward righteousness). V. True confession involves confessing 'particular sins particularly,' both our own and those of our community. VI. Our heavenly Father always blesses the confessions of His children
