Title: Messy Christianity Part 1 A Survey of 1 Corinthians
Introduction: 1 Corinthians 1
I – The Dangers of Christian Propaganda:
II - The challenge posed by Christian propaganda:
What should we not do?
III – LINK & TRANSITION: What we need is the honesty that is bred in the Gospel.
BECAUSE THEIR MESS REMINDS US OF OURS
Who would recommend this church for a friend to visit? Who would enjoy the gathering of a church like this?
Jesus would! Huh??? Let’s read again I Co 1:1-9
a) They were identified as a church of God b) They were declared as those who have been sanctified c) They were designated as saints d) They were blessed with Grace from God and Peace from Jesus e) They were declared to be possessors of Grace f) They were endowed with all gifts, as proof of their legitimacy g) They were promised God’s preservation to the end
Now notice why in verse 9: “God is faithful” and through Him they were called into fellowship with His Son.
• Whatever is true of them is not based on their performance
• There is no “but” following verse 9
• Paul does not write a moralistic hortatory diatribe
CONCLUSION 1. If we are going to deal with sin, our eyes must be focused in one person
2. If lust, pride, money, sex and covetousness are going to be dealt with, we must do it in light of what we have already received.
3. Christians do not need to do things in order to be loved more, to be blessed and to be accepted, we have already been endowed with ever spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus
