On the cross at Calvary, Jesus Christ made the necessary payment to reconcile the entire world and all the people in it back to God, and you and I receive that payment when we reconcile ourselves to Jesus Christ. The bible calls this getting saved, or becoming born again. Jesus holds one hand with God, the other hand with you, and He is what connects us to the Father. After we get saved, Paul says we are now 'ambassadors for Christ' to go out and tell lost people how they can be reconciled to God.
"To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God." 2 Corinthians 5:19,20 (KJB)
When I was a young Christian, I would often wonder why God didn't take us to Heaven when He saved us, to me that would seem to make more sense. But from God's perspective, we are left here to get work done for the Lord, work that we will be judged on at the Judgment Seat of Christ. That work is the saving of souls, and there is no more important work on the face of this earth. This morning, I would like to bring you a message on our status as ambassadors for Jesus Christ, and this amazing ministry of reconciliation He has given us to accomplish.
