David describes God as on being the Righteous God who tests the minds and hearts of men, who defends and saves the upright in heart, but who feels indignation every day against his enemies.
1) David’s Complaint of False Accusations.
In verses 3-5 we also see that David knew without a doubt in his mind that he was innocent of every one of these accusations:
2) God’s Courtroom (v. 6-11)
* God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.
3) Warnings for the Wicked (v. 12-16)
* The judgment of God is a terrible thing. It is a thing under which no man can stand and no one can fight back against.
Amazing, God is a just God, but takes no pleasure in the death of anyone. But he does punish the wicked because he is not an unjust judge
4) Exhortation to Thanksgiving (v. 17):
For the Christian:
To conclude: Christians can and should be thankful for God’s righteousness, because in his time, when the time is right, he will right the wrongs, he will give the proper ruling and he will execute the proper judgment. He tells his people “vengeance is mine, I will repay.” Notice that David didn’t instruct us to take vengeance ourselves. Don’t do it. You won’t do it right. This is God’s job.
For the Lost:
For the person who does not know Christ, who is unsure about where they stand with God, whether under his judgment or in the refuge of Christ, I want to make clear the gospel:
As we heard, God is a just God and has made his commandments known. He being a just God will punish the wicked. But if you repent and put your faith in Jesus you will find refuge.
