How blessed is a flock that has an under-shepherd who is loyal enough to the Great Shepherd of the sheep to preach this passage even though he must do it face to face, with his own voice, knowing he’ll not be getting on a jet or the Amtrak to go back to his home church after finishing a guest appearance, but will meet with them week after week until the Lord Jesus returns.
One of the magnificent perfections about God’s ways is that He is both the goal and our strength to achieve the goal. A taste of Him feeds our pursuit of Him. Hearing the whole counsel about God’s character – what He desires and what He hates; Looking at the majesty of Christ, hearing the power of the cross, and having Jesus continually held up before our mind’s eye when the church assembles, draws us to the very obedience this message calls us to do: Look into the Word, fix our eyes upon Jesus, express adoration, and come to the meetings of the church having already worshiped God in private.
