Forsake Me Not, I Plead! I. An Urgent Plea II. A Confident Plea III. A Grounded Plea
The LORD will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O LORD, endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands. Psalms 138:8
There are two aspects of the experience of salvation in the believer. First the believer has assurance of their salvation and secondly the believer is convicted that God has every reason to forsake him. These two aspects must be present and are not opposing aspects of the experience of God's salvation. The experience of salvation is both personal and experiential.
The works of Salvation in us are God's work and God's alone. God unites us to Christ, regenerates us, grants us Faith in Christ, provides justification, sanctifies us in Christ, and grants us forgiveness through Christ.
If we live consciously in the the presence of God, not our peers, we will feel guilt and shame as a sinner in His presence. For this cause we pray, Forsake me not, I plead.
