When Paul and Silas had come to Troas in modern Turkey)a vision appeared to Paul. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him saying" Come over to Macedonia and help us". (Acts16:9,10). Immediately Paul and Silas sought to go to Macedonia, and cross the Aegean Sea via Samothrace and Neapolis to Philippi in Macedonia.
With Paul's entry to Philippi, the gospel enters Europe. We are told Paul ministers in Philippi to (1)Lydia, a believer who Paul baptises and she invites the travellers to stay in her house. (2) a slave-girl possessed by a spirit of divination is exorcised, much to the chagrin of her owners, and (3) the jailer of the prison in Philippi where Paul and Silas are kept, for a short time. The jailer asks them (Acts 16:30)"Sirs, what must I do to be saved?". Paul answers his question with the glorious gospel message of salvation in and through Christ.
This service was especially memorable because it coincided with the dedication of Reverend Aiken's grandsons, Jacob and Joshua, whose father, Robert's son-in-law, is of Macedonian descent. There were many Macedonian visitors made welcome for this special occasion and to hear the gospel preached, by God's providence.
