The story of Jesus can be told by distinguishing two unique states of experiences: his humiliation and exaltation. Christ willingly humbled himself by coming to earth to suffer and die for sinners. God exalted him by raising him from the dead, drawing him to his side, and giving him rule over all things. He will return in glory and power. We can better know Christ by knowing his states.
The states of humiliation and exaltation is also a model for the truly blessed life in God's economy. We don't like being humbled. We struggle to submit. We like respect. We crave influence. But Jesus said, "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth" (Matt. 5:5). In the trenches of our own troubles we can know he was telling the truth because he personified meek humility.
We focus first on the three phases of Christ humiliation: Birth, life, and death. In each of these phases we witness God's love as Christ laid aside divine majesty by assuming a human nature in the form of a servant.
