In our sermon passage this Sabbath morning (Philippians 3), Paul calls us to live in hope, not looking to the past in lament but to the future. It is hard to not simply live as if we are only the sum total of our yesterdays. To be honest, it would be easy to go with the flow. There are days when I don't mind being the totality of my yesterdays. They're not that good but I do understand them. They are kind of like an old shoe and they are comfortable with them. I don't always feel much like progressing upwards. I don't feel much like having Jesus pull me into the future because that's hard. It makes a lot of friction and it hurts. But Paul says we to the degree we have obtained let us walk. Let us walk together. Let us walk to the future in hope. We are being called upwards to Jesus Christ. It is about to be a new year. The Lord Jesus Christ will call us through it. We are progressing upwards. Let us live in HIS hope.
