“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners” (I Timothy 1:15).
Our Lord Himself said, “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).
The Lord Jesus Christ is the “captain of our salvation” (2:10).
1. THE CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION DIED FOR US. CAPTAIN, this same Greek word translated “captain” in Hebrews 2:10 and “Prince” in the Book of Acts (v. 3:15; 5:21) is also translated, “author” in Hebrews 12:2. It is a Greek word combining “to begin” and “to lead.”
2. THE CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION SANCTIFIED US. The words “sanctifieth” and “sanctified” (2:11) come from the Greek word that means “to set apart” and “to make holy.” (v. 2:10, 11; cf. 10:10). John 17:19. “Sanctify” cannot mean to cleanse from defilement, because the sinless Son of God had no defilement.
3. THE CAPTAIN OF OUR SALVATION DEFEATED SATAN. Christ became “flesh and blood” (2:14) in order to die for our sins on the cross. And when He died for our sins on the cross, He defeated Satan. (John 12:31).
Some are in bondage to materialism and consumerism and gambling. They worship the almighty dollar. Jesus warned, “Ye cannot serve God and mammon” (Matt. 6:24).
Scriptures teach us how the Lord Jesus Christ identifies with believers. (Hebrews 2:13; Isaiah 8:17 & 18; John 17:16, 21, 22).
Our Lord said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
