Paul's reminder to the believers in Philippi that they are citizens of heaven, is given in the context of them being called living in this life in obedience to God's revelation, thus it is wrong to think Paul is calling on them to disengage from the affairs of this life. He shows how the guarantee of the believer's perfection when Christ returns again, is to serve as a great encouragement and motivation to walk in terms of that victory now. These verses should inspire all believers to strive more zealously, though Christ's power, to do God's whole will in the whole of their lives this side of glory, that is, to more faithfully imitate the pattern that Paul revealed.
