For 21 chapters the book of Joshua has been demonstrating the faithfulness of God. Chapter 21 even closes with the statement, "Joshua 21:45 Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD made to the house of Israel had failed; all come to pass." The question is why? Why did God go to such extremes to see Israel settled into the Promised Land? We go back to the Abrahamic Covenant where God said, "I will be your God, you will be my people, and I will dwell among you." This is the big picture. This is what it is all about. God's elect, God's chosen people enjoying God. Remember, the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. There is a pattern in scripture that emerges many places. First, the revelation of God and His work and there is an expected response. Revelation - Response. Paul does this in the book of Romans. Eleven chapters of mind blowing revelation and then chapter 12 begins the response. How should we respond to God's faithfulness? 1) Obedience. If you believe God is faithful to His Word, you will be obedient to his commands. 2) Vigilance for purity in worship. 3) Preserve unity. You want God's people to remain as God's people.
