The Walls of the Tabernacle
We now come to the passage where the walls of the tabernacle are constructed for this forty-five foot by fifteen foot tent. The walls are quite large and completely covered with gold. When we think of the tabernacle being portable, it was hardly portable according to our definition. It was a substantial and heavy building. Just the sockets that the panels would sit in would be almost ten tons of weight. In addition to the walls, this passage talks about the making of the veil between the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place that would separate the priests from the presence of God. It also describes the screen, which separates those who have access to the picture of heaven, the priests, from the common people who could go into the courtyard. As we consider these things, it is important to remember that these are pictures of heavenly realities.
