The Devil has always been a subject of interest, and not only among Christians. Do devils actually exist? Is one of them named Satan? Is it myth and childlike foolishness to believe the existence of devils? Interest in television shows on the paranormal has increased. Popular shows on exorcisms, ghost hunting, vampires, and people morphing into hideous creatures indicate that people are intrigued by the thought of beings outside the realm of normal human experience. Halloween has always been a time when devils draw our attention. Is Halloween the Devil's birthday? Is it the most important time on the satanic calendar? Is it the time when the veil between our world and the spirits' world is the thinnest? Do spirits show themselves on Halloween? Is there a place for Christians to celebrate Halloween? Prof. Barry Gritters, a former native of Redlands, and current Professor of Theology in the Protestant Reformed Churches' Seminary in Grand Rapids, MI, demonstrates from the Bible that the Devil is real and must be reckoned with. The title of the speech was The Prince of Darkness Grim: The Bible's Teaching on Satan and was given in the auditorium of Hope Protestant Reformed Church, located at 1307 E. Brockton Ave. in Redlands on Friday, October 26, 2012. A question and answer session followed the lecture.
