Great Sermon! This book had reinforced my thoughts about the subject of dating and courting. My decision about courting was already made when the book came out. However, the book also makes some assumptions about dating that aren't accurate either. There are some valid healthy avenues where the date perspective can shead a little light on the future with the individual you intend on marrying. The book was intended for both parties to already be vetted as true believers in Christ. Courtship works great for that type of situation. There has to be a guideline to follow while figuring it out. A plan if you will. The book has a list of rules. The only problem with this type of system is the possibility of guilt and shame. As Christian's it's important to uphold the basic moral code and respect for boundaries put in place. For the unbelievers they are free from this code and therefore more likely to bring pain with the adventure. I used to be strickt to the code of courting. However, realized that a blend is probably best, 95% court 5% date. There are things that a person can and will hide from you without there ever being one on one. It should be before engagement but long into the already developed courtship. Trust, faithfulness, love, and respect are the keys to a successful relationship.

Great Sermon! As always... an honest and transparent discussion... it was a great book and still is... the premise has much merit... and if someone set the bar too high it was their doing... not Josh Harris. Victimhood is a typical response today which has been around since the beginning..... “blame someone else for the bad decisions I have made.”
