Church consultants like to say every church has a front door and a back door… did I just hear you say, "well duh!" But seriously, their point is that we want people to enter our church's front door, join God's family, and never exit out that back door! Hebrews is all about guarding the church's back door against apostasy - desertion. Specifically. desertion brought on by the growing threat of persecution by the 1st century Roman governement against Christians. So Hebrews' writer is nailing shut the exit by pounding in two important truths: new & better. As in, the New Testament delivers what the Old Testament only previewed. As in, Jesus is better than angels or Moses or Aaron. As in, the gospel is better than the Law. As in, grace is better than works.
