The provision of the priesthood under the Old Covenant was a great blessing in that it made the people aware of their sins, but the blood of animals could not remove their sin. Jesus, however, by the sacrifice of his own blood, saves his people "to the uttermost" by providing absolute purification from sin along with many accompanying benefits.
