Wait training

From the pen of Brother Dennis Sampson,
Isaiah 40:31 “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength…”.
People, in general, hate to wait and I know for me waiting seems completely unnatural. Yet out on my route I have times built into the route where I must wait for the next customer to show up. I like those times because it means no pressure. If I have time to sit and collect my thoughts, write a blog, study, etc. it means I have been taking care of my customers. Should there be no time then I am running late for whatever the reason and my anxiety is kicking in.
When it comes to getting what we want though that is a horse of another color. We tend to want it now. “It’s Monday, how much longer till the weekend?” “When is Christmas?” “When is payday?” “How long will it take to learn patience?”
God however likes to work in those down times. The moments where we can either sit and wait or run off and do something rash, without Him, and get into trouble. In those moments of waiting God is moving. He might be trying to speak to us but if we are busy we might not hear Him. Perhaps He is moving things into place on our behalf but our determination to get going might be messing things up.
The situation sure may seem to call for action, but is God calling for action on our part? Romans 5:3-5 “… we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulations worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed”. The tribulations, trials, troubles that we are going through are part of that wait training. It results in us gaining experience with the subject. That gives us hope because we have already gone through something like this before and KNOW that God can and will handle it yet again. But if we don’t develope the patience by waiting we will never be able to handle the next situation. Wait training is for our benefit.
