The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life - Romans ch 6
The Lord also hath put away thy sin, thou shalt not die (2 Sam 12 v 13)
Nathan said this to David after he had sinned and repented of his sin.
We shall not die because He has died for us and accomplished a perfect atonement on our behalf. And because of that death we can have life anew, life more abundantly, life which is life indeed. We can receive his life and his nature, and by the power which that gives we can overcome the terrible force called sin just as he did in the days of his flesh. The problem of life is sin - sin in its guilt, its power, its pollution. And the only solution is Christ and him crucified. He cancels the guilt, breaks the power, renews the nature. 'Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.'
