In the waters of the sea God commanded an abundance of life to be manifested. There is no number in any language that could adequately account for their sum. There were creatures of all sizes; some as big as ships and some so tiny they can only be seen by a microscope. There were creatures of every shape and some without shape. They were all brought forth and given life by the authority of Christ, “without whom nothing was made that was made.” I see three things here to encourage me and give me hope in this hopeless world.

1. By His manifestation of life in the sea, I see His divine purpose to give life. If it were not God’s intention to give life He would not have filled the oceans, rivers, lakes, and streams with it.
2. In the diversity of life in the sea, I see a grace of life without discrimination. The creatures of the sea all vary in shapes, sizes, colors, and manners. Yet all have life from the same source.
3. In the abundance of life given in the sea, I see a divine pleasure in God to give life.

Before ever a man would be put on the slippery ground of accountability and subjected to his fall, the redeemer would surround him with the sweet evidence of God’s willingness to give life where no life was before.
