Life in this present world brings with it many questions. God’s Word provides to us many answers to our questions about life, death, eternity, and the judgment to come. God has revealed His truth to fallen humanity throughout the history of the world; He spoke through His prophets and the apostles, and He also spoke to us through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ! Hebrews 1:1-2 From the fall of man, Genesis 3, God set in motion His plan to redeem fallen sinners, save them from their sins and from the darkness of this world. Everything recorded and written in the Word of God IS DESIGNED to point you to Christ, “The Promised Man”, who came to crush the serpents head, and free, fallen sinners from His captivity, the darkness of this world and his kingdom, and to free sinners from their sins. EVERYTHING that you NEED TO KNOW about life, death, eternity, and the judgment to come, is written in the Word of God for you to take hold of and believe! But it’s those terrible “WHY” questions that we want answered! WHY did this have to happen this way or that way! JOB, a precious saint of God, amid what was an insurmountable and terrible trial asked God “WHY”: “WHY died I not from the womb? WHY did I not give up the ghost when I came out of the belly? WHY did the knees prevent me? Or WHY the breast that I should suck?” To Job’s questions God remained silent, in his sore trial, he must trust God for his “WHY” questions… in the same way that WE MUST TRUST God for our “WHY” questions. The truth is: in some of life’s most difficult times, dear child of God, God is not going to reveal to you “WHY” things happened…. And in this, we must trust our Heavenly Father to know best! Ecclesiastes 7:8 This is where you must use your faith, which God has given to you dear child of God! “For all things…. Romans 8:28” SO don’t obsess or focus on what you don’t and won’t know, focus on what you can and MUST KNOW from what is revealed by God in His Word. If you would live the Christian life the way God designed it, you must know that it is NOT a life of “show and tell” or “see and believe”, it is a life of God TELLING you what we NEED TO KNOW, and YOU trusting and believing what you cannot ee, but MUST believe! You will see LATER, saith God, but you MUST first believe me, trust my Word! But know this, dear child of God, God is NOT going to tell you everything…. But He will tell you what you need to know! If you are saved this morning, you are saved because you turned from your sins and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, whom you cannot see! True and genuine saving faith requires us to believe things that we cannot yet see or (at times) things that we do not understand... but only what God has revealed to us in His Holy Word! Romans 10:17, John 20:24-29 I would like you to SEE (3) things about true and genuine saving faith, this morning: True faith trusts the “WHYS” of life to God! True faith looks to what God has revealed to us about what is beyond this life and to what is beyond death! True faith looks to what has been promised by God, but not yet received! Many saints have gone before us (our brothers and sisters in Christ) whom we have known and loved, who walked by faith in their God and our God; they testified to us and to the world who knew them of their faith in Christ, by their faith, and when they “walked through the valley of the shadow of death” and who “died in faith” believing all that God promised them, but in that which they had not yet received! In Hebrews 11, God shows off the faith of His dear children, who believed Him, trusted their “WHYS” to Him, and who continued to look by faith to what God had promised to them, but that they had not yet received. Hebrews 11:1-40 “Wherefore …”: Hebrews 12:1-3 The writer of Hebrews shows us the Christian life in the imagery of an Olympic race in a stadium with a great and massive cloud of witnesses, who are the OT saints of old, who suffered many ills in the world, many of whom were martyred for their faith in Christ… but who nonetheless continued to RUN the RACE in this life by their faith in Christ. THIS cloud of witnesses, these saints that have gone before us are our examples… it is NOW as if they are looking on, from heaven, shouting for us… TO RUN! RUN YOUR RACE CHRISTIAN! Hebrews 12:1: “Let us run with patience the race that is set before us”. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, 1 Peter 1:3-9 God sets “witnesses” before our eyes so that we may see and behold their faith in Christ…. That we might look to Christ! And NOT to ask “WHY” they suffered as they did, or “WHY” they died as they did…. NO…. but God puts true and genuine saving faith in His dear children on display as a pattern and example to us and to the lost… to emulate and embrace, and to point the world to Christ, so that sinners might believe and trust Christ as they did.
