There are many men who have been called to preach God’s Word, but they have not had the opportunity to learn the art of expository preaching. Perhaps they have not been able to attend a Bible college or seminary due to some prohibiting factors. Many others have taken their training online and have not been exposed to hands-on mentoring in the art of expository preaching. It is primarily for these men that I have written. However, others that already preach expository messages may find it helpful for review and evaluation.
If you fall into one of the above categories, my prayer is that you will benefit from this short treatise. It is not offered because I am the last word on expository preaching. I am far from it, although I have mentored a few preachers over the years. I only hope to provide some help and motivation. Over the last 40 years, I have disciplined myself to preach expository sermons and found it to be immensely worthwhile. My approach is not unique. Neither is this small volume meant to be an academic text. Hopefully, for some, it will be a primer for further study. In the end, it is simply an effort to explain the nuts and bolts of expository preaching with the hope of helping others preach in a way that truly unleashes the power of God’s Word.
